PRN Information Practice Resource Network Frequently Asked Questions TOPIC: SUBTOPIC: KEY WORDS: CCRN Certification Developing a CCRN Review Course CCRN, review course, resources, catalog QUESTION: I am interested in developing a CCRN Review Course. I need information regarding recommended content and materials that are available to help me put this course together. Also, can you recommend any speakers for this course? GENERAL INFORMATION: Content: Information about the review content for the CCRN exam is best found in the CCRN Handbook. This 32-page Handbook contains the blueprints for the adult, pediatric and neonatal examinations and can be downloaded from the Certification Corporation website using Adobe Acrobat reader. The CCRN Handbook also includes information regarding eligibility for the exam, the examination process, information on the Synergy Model, sample questions and a complete bibliography list for study purposes. Teaching Materials: Educator outlines for developing the course can be found in the Instructor’s Resource Manual for the AACN Core Curriculum, 5th edition.* There are four parts to this product: 1) Teaching Manual which is broken down into individual 1 hour modules that include the Instructional Objectives, Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills, Suggested Pre-course Learning Activities, the Lecture Outline, Suggested Post-course Learning Activities and Self-Evaluation items. There are also prompts for the educator as to resources available to help illustrate the information. 2) Handout book, which has resource materials specific to the information in each lesson. These handouts can be copied for educational purposes to accompany the Core Curriculum for Critical Care Nursing, 5th edition. Copies must include the copyright information from the W. B. Saunders Company. 3) Visual learning materials which can be purchased either as slides or overhead transparencies. These include graphics, charts, and bulleted information to correspond with the outlines in the Teaching Manual. 4) Lecture View CD Rom. This CD-Rom includes the Powerpoint version of the slides/transparencies, and is included with the purchase of either visual learning set. Student Resource: The AACN Core Curriculum for Critical Care Nursing, 5th Edition is written in outline form and is a resource for the learner. It is based on a systems approach with supplemental information regarding nursing assessments and activities. Practice Exams: Validation materials that you might consider using for your course include the Practice CCRN Exam questions. This is a 43 page booklet with over 200 practice questions and answers. Questions based on the Synergy Model are included. The purpose of this booklet is to give the learner experience in answer questions constructed in the same way as those on the CCRN exam. For a $50 fee, the student may also take a practice CCRN exam online. The CCRN-Adult practice examination exactly matches the content outline of the actual exam. Although the practice exam is only 50 questions, compared to 200 for the actual exam, it is designed to represent the knowledge level required of a critical care nurse who deals primarily with adults. Questions from each category of the CCRN-adult content outline are included. Speaker Recommendations: AACN and AACN Certification Corporation do not endorse any CCRN preparation course providers and also do not make recommendations regarding speakers for this course.
