Our Mission:
The Cathedral Domain is a Camp and Conference Center dedicated to providing a facility and
atmosphere that promotes spiritual renewal, recreation, relaxation, and education in a Christcentered environment.
2012 Recap and a Look Ahead:
The Camps and Conferences Board continues to work diligently to secure the future Mission of
the Cathedral Domain. By further refining the structure of the Board and tailoring responsibilities
to the talents of our membership, we are able to begin to fully recognize our potential in
developing the ongoing ministry of the Domain. While it would be difficult if not impossible to
summarize the entire body of work undertaken by the Board in the last year, we have enjoyed the
important task laid before us and are excited for this opportunity to share some of the amazing
work God has done for and through the Domain in 2012.
In April of 2012, the people of the Diocese joined together to celebrate St. George’s Day at the
“Heart of the Diocese”. Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions, more than 275 people came
together for the day’s events, which included raffles, games, delicious food, Diocesan business,
and concluded with a beautiful Baptism service in the Cathedral of St. George the Martyr. St.
George’s Day 2013 marks the Centennial anniversary of the property, and the Board is again
working hard to plan a fantastic event to bring all corners of the Diocese together in celebration.
In 2012, the Domain ministered to 2591 guests and served 19,322 meals. While the economy
remains sluggish, our camp program reached hundreds of children both in our Diocese and in our
communities at-large. A new camp experience was added to the line-up, to give adults a chance
to let their inner-child enjoy a camp weekend. In addition to these revenue sources, fundraising
efforts continue on many fronts to support the Domain’s ministry, provide scholarship funds, and
to improve and maintain buildings and grounds. Finally, the Capital Campaign that was launched
under the leadership of Interim Bishop Knudsen continues, and we look forward to working with
Bishop Hahn in the furtherance of these goals.
Thanks to the humbling and overwhelming generosity of those touched by the Domain’s
ministry, significant improvements continue to be made to the buildings and grounds. Among the
most important for ensuring the future of the ministry was the paving of the roadway around the
camp. This improvement will not only provide easier access for ALL of the members of our
Diocesan family, but will enable the camp to continue to come into compliance with ADA
guidelines. Additional, important improvements have been made to the Conference Center,
Canon’s Cottage/Deanery, Patterson Hall, the Conference Center facilities, and the Bishop’s
Commons. In 2013 we look forward to the completion of the beautiful work being done on the
Bishop’s Commons, the resurrection of OTF-Loggery, (both made possible by restricted gifts)
and several other projects that have been identified to continue to make the facility accessible to
all and to ensure the preservation of the physical resources required to conduct the spiritual
ministry that takes place on the property.
Your Camps and Conferences Board enters 2013 excited to begin work with Bishop Hahn to
incorporate his vision for the Domain and its ministry into our focus to fully realize the potential
harnessed therein. The Board will continue to work hard on behalf of the Diocese and the
Domain and we look forward to celebrating this important ministry with you all at the St.
George’s Day and Centennial festivities on April 20!
Respectfully submitted,
The Cathedral Domain Camps and Conferences Board
