Objective 1: Communication
Students develop communicative abilities in the three modes: interpersonal, interpretative, and pretational,
integrating the skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and showing.
Objective 2: Cultures
Students learn about and experience other cultures.
Objective 3: Connections
Students use language to acquire new information and knowledge in other subject areas.
Objective 4: Comparisons
Students learn the nature of language and culture by comparing other languages and cultures with their
own.
Objective 5: Communities
Students use language to participate in communities both at home and around the world.
Cycle 1
Objectives: Reading, speaking, writing, and listening applications of past tenses – preterit and
imperfect indicative – with appropriate vocabulary and syntax.
Introductory Unit
Grammar: Review formation and usage of present indicative. Revisit all rules for ACCENT placement
Vocabulary: Biography, family, dining, sports
Reading Comprehension: 3 short stories, selections from El sol
Orals: Initial introductions of shoulder partners, “Yo” oral presentation, El sol presentations
Writing: Journal entries
Listening Comprehension: Zarabanda, episodes 1 – 3
Major Review Test

Grammar: Double object pronouns, Indirect Object Pronouns, Preterit and Imperfect, Pluperfect,
impersonal “se”, review of “gustar” and like verbs, Commands (familiar and formal)
Vocabulary: athletic events, competitions, goals, prizes
Reading Comprehension: Dos aventuras
Orals: Una experiencia inolvidable, Una competencia escolar, un viaje al parque
Writing: Journal entries, one paragraph to turn in

Objectives: Reading, writing, speaking, and listening applications of “ser” and “estar”, familiar and
formal commands, and several applications of the present subjunctive mood.
Capítulo Dos
Grammar: Uses of “ser” and “estar”(including use with participle), Negative and Affirmative Expressions,
“conocer” versus “saber”, adding emphasis to a description, Imperfect and Preterit verbs with distinct
meanings
