Welder Foundation (Level 1 & 2)
2015-2016 Admission Information
Program Description
This introductory program prepares learners for entry
level positions as apprentice welders in most sectors
of the economy including manufacturing, construction,
transportation, resource extraction, and resource
development. Students engage in a variety of
classroom and shop activities. In the classroom, they
learn theoretical principles of welding. Shop sessions
provide the hands-on opportunity to learn processes
and master practical welding skills.
Credentials awarded include: advance credit for
Levels 1 & 2 of the Technical Training component of
the Welder Apprenticeship and 300 hours credit
towards the Workplace-Based Training component of
their apprenticeship.

Admission of Mature Students
Any applicant at least 19 years of age with a minimum
two years out of school lacking requirements for a
program or course will be considered for mature
student status. Although the grade level requirement
(Grade 10, Grade 12, etc.) will be waived for students
classified as mature, individual course prerequisites
listed for the program or course must be met.
How to Apply
1.
After completion of the program, it is recommended
that students gain another 2,700 hours of hands-on
field experience before returning to school for Level 3
Technical Training.

Once we have reviewed your application and
applicable supporting documents, we will notify
you about the admission decision.
Use the check-list in this package to make sure
you have included all the supporting documents
required for the program you are applying to. For
trades programs, seating is limited and
allocated on a first come/first serve basis to
students who have successfully met all
program requirements.
Once you have been admitted, you will have to
pay a commitment fee of $500 to confirm your
spot and enable you to register in courses.
