VisNav Camera Mount VISNAVCAM-ORD-01 20130212 Prepared By: Danny Chryst Reviewed By: Brian Taylor Prof. Demoz Gebre-Egziabher VISNAVCAM-ORD-01 1 of 4 1 Objectives The objective is to design and fabricate a camera mounting bracket for use in visual navigation research. 2 Requirements The mounting bracket must have fixed, adjustable mounting options, as opposed to slotted adjustments. The camera must be adjustable within the range of 0° – 90° (horizontal to vertical). The mounting bracket must be rigid enough to reduce vibration of the camera in-flight. The mounting bracket must, whenever possible, use as little material as possible to reduce added weight to the aircraft. The entire system, including camera, must not reach a height lower than the landing gear. 3 Technical Approach The mount will be made out of 1/8” thick aluminum plate to stay as light as possible. When the camera is pointing directly downwards the entire system will reach a 7.25” vertical distance from the mounting position (landing gear mount on fuselage). Clearance to the ground is 8.5”. The bracket will use existing bolts from landing gear to mount onto aircraft. VISNAVCAM-ORD-01 2 of 4 A ¼” thick gusset plate will be added for stability and to reduce vibration of camera in-flight. The camera will mount to the bracket by a ¼”-20 SHC screw into the preexisting tapped hole of camera. Two 1/16” dowel pins will be press fit into the camera which will require two holes to be drilled into the camera itself. The adjustability of the camera will come from these dowel pins. The pins will fit through a series of clearance holes spaced at 15° increments. (0°, 15°, 30°, … , 90°).
