Students,
Welcome back for the 2015-16 school year!! We will be diving through the
history books and exploring ancient world civilizations and learning about
their cultures, religions, and geography. Also, we will compare and contrast,
through open class discussion and organized debate, ancient history with
current events that are happening around the world right now! We have a
great year ahead of us and I look forward to getting to know each and every
one of you.
Your 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher,
Mr. Warner
Covering Our Content- We will be using the World History textbooks by Holt
(blue cover), and at times may reference Human Heritage by McGraw-Hill
(red cover). We will be covering content in the order of our curriculum
standards so we must skip around in chapters. Make sure to pay attention
where we are! Below is a tentative (possibly could change) schedule for the
year:
1. Chapter 1: Studying History and Geography
2. Chapter 8: Ancient Greece (City-Sate Project)
3. Chapter 9: The Greek World
4. Chapter 10: The Roman Republic (Roman Republic Posters)
5. Chapter 11: Rome and Christianity (Timeline)
6. Chapter 14: China
_________________________________________________________________________Christmas Break
7. Chapter 15: Japan
8. Chapter 12: The Islamic World
9. Chapter 13: Ancient Africa (*African Trade Project)
_________________________________________________________________________Spring Break
10. Chapter 17: Early Middle Ages
11. Chapter 18: Later Middle Ages
12. Chapter 19: The Renaissance and Reformation (Comparison Project)
Textbooks/Vocab Books- Due to the number of students in the class and the
hefty size of the book, textbooks will remain only in the classroom. Students
will not be given their own book unless I assign them one for a take home
assignment. Students will also have the opportunity to check one out if need
be. Students will also be responsible for vocabulary books they are required
to bring to class every day.
Classroom Expectations- My expectations for this year are very simple. The
relationship between a teacher and their students is mutual. As the teacher it
is my duty to make sure all curriculum standards including Common Core are
met and that I make this year as fun and interesting as I possibly can. As the
student, it is their job to come to class prepared, give their peers and teacher
the respect they deserve, and to try their very hardest to be safe and
successful (PBS). If we both do our jobs correctly, then I have no doubt this
year will be AMAZING!
Merit System- Students may lose merits for failure to abide by the PBS
(below). Examples of reasons for losing merits could be
 Tardiness for class
 Not having supplies (paper, book, homework, PENICL)
 Out of seat without permission
 Being disrespectful to other students or the teacher
Losing three or more merits in a single class time will result in a detention.
