Archives Month Committee Report Society of North Carolina Archivists November 2014 Members of the Archives Week Committee, 2014-2015 Jolie Braun; Ruth Cody; Liz Cook; Craig Fansler; Rebecca Petersen; Barbara Tysinger Ronnika Williams, and Tanya Zanish-Belcher, Chair North Carolina’s first Archives Month was a success! The Committee and SNCA members promoted archives across the state with the theme: “North Carolina at Play: Health and Leisure in Our State.” Press Release Template: We designed and shared a press release template (which included basic information about Archives Month and NC archives), which was made available to all institutions in North Carolina. Poster and Bookmarks: We solicited photo submissions by sending emails on the SNCA listserv as well as on the SNCA website, Facebook, and Twitter pages. Eight institutions submitted approximately 25 photographs, which were used in the design. Craig Fansler designed the poster and bookmarks. We received eleven institution requests for 27 posters and 350 bookmarks. The committee printed 60 posters and 600 bookmarks. Last year’s numbers were 90 posters and 1600 bookmarks—as we did offer an online option of a printable poster for 2014 this may have lessened the number of requests. We will consider lowering our printing request for 2015, although the extras were all shared and distributed. Governor’s Proclamation: Working with the State Archives, Governor McCrory gave a Governor’s Proclamation in honor of Archives Month. The Proclamation was sent out to SNCA members via the listserv and also made available on the web site. Twitter: We created a Twitter hashtag for Archives Month activities (#NCArchivesMonth2014) and there were thirty-five tweets from institutions in the state. NC Archives Month activities were also shared and promoted during SAA’s #AskAnArchivist Day@ on Twitter. Calendar Events: Fifteen institutions submitted 20 events for the Archives Month calendar, available on the SNCA web site. Budget: We expended a little over half of our budget ($650). Future Plans: We will review and update the current Guidelines for Archives Month. We will also explore how to increase repository involvement as well as develop a broader public relations plan. Respectfully Submitted, Tanya Zanish-Belcher Archives Month Chair
