 Landscape changes and pressures on biodiversity in urban areas
 Biological invasions in urban areas
 Urban and peri-urban forests
 Land-use planning and governance in green urban areas
- Water and global change:
 The assessment of the impacts of global change on water resources.
 The development of a multidisciplinary approach for evaluating the water cycle,
including the role of naturals ecosystems and its ecosystems services.

- Water and global change:
 Set up a multidisciplinary methodology to identify, quantify and valuate the
ecosystem services of the natural ecosystems and to quantify the necessary water
to guaranty them.
 Propose management scenarios to optimize the necessary water to guaranty the
ecosystem services of the natural ecosystems. Implement demonstrative sites to
assess management scenarios at river basin level.
5. Strengths
- Long experience of CREAF in research and technology transfer in terrestrial ecology,
with specific research in biodiversity, forest ecology and wildfires, functional ecology
and global change, and territory environmental analysis.
- Landscape ecology and land planning:
 Our team led various national and international studies linked to landscape
changes, land use planning and biological invasions in Mediterranean urban areas
 Authors and coordinators of various national and international data bases on alien
species
 Participation in COST actions and various EU projects (BIOPRESS; ALARM; DAISIE;
COCONUT)
 Good networking and contacts with the local administration, focused on
biodiversity conservation and land-use planning
- Water and global change:
 Our team has coordinated one national project (ACCUA) and participated in the
FP7 project CLICO. We are currently leading the FP7 - Capacities - Science in Society
project BEWATER, which includes several partners and a strong work with local
actors. We are also technically coordinating the Life+ MEDACC project to
implement regional adaptation measures to climate change.
 Long experience in the application of multidisciplinary and integrated approaches
in water use management.
 Participation in the Action Group of Ecosystem Services in the EIP Water.
