School Psychologist Intern
South City Preparatory Academy (SCP) is seeking an intern who demonstrates a strong desire to work in at an
academically rigorous college preparatory school and has a belief that all students can achieve at the highest levels.
All staff are expected to support the mission of the school and must actively participate in professional and schoolwide activities.
North Side Community School (NSCS) serves low-income, African-American students in north St. Louis. It opened in
the fall of 2009 as a K-1 charter school with 52 students. Currently, it offers Pre-k to 5th grade and has 350 students.
Its mission is to prepare students for academic success in middle school and beyond. The NSCS program is built
upon small class size, high academic and behavioral expectations of students, a nurturing environment, regular
contact with parents, concentration on core subjects, and an extended day and year,
The intern will spend 2.5 days at SCP and 2.5 days per week at NSCS.
Requirements:



Conduct multidisciplinary evaluations for special education and Section 504 eligibility and testing for the
gifted program.
o Schedules and facilitates Review of Existing Data meetings with parents and school staff
o Explains procedural safeguards to parents and obtains written permission to evaluate
o Reviews student files and data-gathering packets and collects pertinent data from physicians,
mental health professionals, and other agencies working with the child
o Administers diagnostic tests and procedures to determine student’s cognitive capability, processing
strengths/weaknesses, academic achievement, social-emotional-behavioral and adaptive
behavioral functioning
o Coordinates assessment activities with other members of the diagnostic team (e.g
speech/language, occupational/physical therapy, Functional Behavioral Assessments, Assistive
technology evaluations)
o Schedules and conducts eligibility evaluation and re-evaluation conferences with parents and
school staff
o Maintains student records consistent with DESE compliance requirements
o Prepares, edits, proofs and disseminates evaluation reports in a timely manner to parents and
school staff
Ensures that eligibility decisions are made in compliance with DESE criteria and established professional
practice.
Participates in IEP conferences, problem solving, Section 504, and grade level team meetings as requested
o Provides input on appropriate goals and objectives for individual students
o Helps make determinations about reevaluation needs

Completes informal assessments including observations, interviews, curriculum-based measurements,
functional behavioral assessments, and others structured clinical tasks for students identified as off-track
academically or behaviorally
Provides short-term and crises intervention including classroom and group activities.
Engage in social-emotional-behavioral consultation, conduct functional behavioral assessments, assist with
creating & implementing behavior improvement plans.
Facilitates use of appropriate data in meeting individual student needs and assist teams in data-based
decision making.
Provide guidance when building leaders express interest in developing systems which support team
problem solving, multi-tiered systems of support and response to intervention procedures.
Provide individual counseling and lead social skills groups for various students.
Provides training for staff and parents regarding assessment-related procedures and eligibility criteria
Complete all assignments in a timely fashion.
Passionate about working in a socio-economically and ethnically diverse urban environment.
Must be willing to bring a positive attitude to important and difficult tasks and commit to direct and clear
communication when misunderstandings and conflicts arise.
Qualifications:
Intern applicants must be working toward a terminal degree in school psychology and are required to seek
provisional certification as a school psychologist in Missouri.
Salary Range:
$15,000 per year, including benefits.
Clinical Supervision by a certified & experienced school psychologist is included in the terms of this agreement
