The Foxes Press Date: April 2015 Foxes Piece School Marathon By Gabriel (Year 4) On Friday 24th April, we did a whole school marathon. Mrs Haskey worked out that if the whole school ran around the field it would be the length of a marathon. This means that we would run 26 miles! In assembly Sam (Mrs Barry’s) son came to talk about the London marathon because he was entering it! Cadhla thought it was awesome and Miss Irvine agrees “It is great that the children can now say that they all have participated in a marathon.” Megan said “that although it was really tiring, it was great fun.” Foxes Piece hopes that we have got some future Marathon Runners! Smashing Saxons By Sean and Gabriel (Year 4) On Thursday 23rd April year 4 went to the Chiltern open air museum to learn about the Anglo-Saxons and archaeology. When they went there they did amazing activities like making daub, they thatched, tried on a helmet and made brooches. Olivia said “my favourite part of the trip was when we went inside a round house.” At lunchtime, the class got the chance to go see week old lambs. We were even able to touch one! Jodie said, “I liked the lambs, they were soft and small.” After lunchtime we learnt about Archaeologists and they had to dig for artefacts. Year 4 had a brilliant trip and wishes to go again! Sky Studios By Rebecca, Mollee and Jodie On Wednesday 16th April, Year 5 went to Sky Skills Studio for a school trip. First, we went to get on the coach. It took 1 hour 15 minutes to get there. When we arrived we waited for the manager to come to give us our passes. When we walked through this mini alley we saw the building it was huge. Then we met our body guards and put our lunch down on this colourful desk. We talked about sky and what we’re being doing during the day. After that, we set off to film our video we had a tour round the studios. As a class, we were split into groups and where given a role, Mollee was a cameraman; she said “I enjoyed this because I got to use a real camera.” Rebecca said, “the whole trip was really good because you got to pick costumes and be on TV.” We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to come again! Year 6 – Longridge Excitement! Yr6 are looking forward to going to Longridge on the 30th June with their friends. They are really excited because they have watched a video of the children who went to Longridge last year. This year yr6 get to stay round at Longridge for 3 days and they get to choose who they share a bed with. On different days they get to do different activities: On Tuesday morning they travel to Longridge on a mini bus. In the afternoon they do kayaking/canoeing and then a tea time they do Dragon boating. On Wednesday they do Water orbs or climbing wall/crate stacking. In the afternoon they do Kayaking/canoeing. Then at teatime it’s more water orbs or climbing wall/crate stacking On Thursday its water orbs or climbing wall/crate stacking. In the afternoon it’s rafting/bell boating. Then at teatime it’s rafting/ bell boating. I Got Up Late for School Book Review I got up late for school today, And nearly missed the bus! I hurried down the stairs, Wolfed my toast, and caused a fuss! I quickly threw books in my bag, My pens, my lunch and shorts. Grabbed my coat from out the cupboard, Took my bat and ball for sports. I slid across the kitchen floor, And hopped around the cat! Then expertly rolled over, Jumped back up and grabbed my hat! I belted out of our front door, Spun round and swung it shut. Saw the bus was waiting for me, I felt I had time to strut! I climbed aboard and then froze still, And knew that things weren't right! My friends fell down in fits of fun, And pointed with delight! My Head Teacher Is A Vampire Rat! Written by Pamela Butchart A little girl named Izzy and her 3 best friends go on shocking adventures especially when they meet their new Head teacher, Mr Graves. Izzy and her friends are SHOCKED when they meet their new head teacher. He has black hair, wears a cape and has funny, wormy lips. One it me they even heard a hissing sound in his office. The new head teacher is a VAMPIRE and his army of rats are going to take over the school! We give it five stars because it is a great book with lots of cool and interesting words. I'd forgotten to wear trousers, Jumper, shirt, my socks and shoes By Gareth Lancaster Valentines Disco By Niamh, Mollee (Year 5) and Jodie (Year 4) On the Valentine`s Day, Dave the disco came to Foxes Piece and played four hours of brilliant music. On the night there were lots of stalls full of yummy sweets, crisps, drinks and delicious hot dogs. There were lots of games and fun thing as well, such as the Dirty Sock Game and Dance-offs. It was fun. We did a good job because foxes piece raised £500 pounds so now we can all organised fun things for us. We interviewed people who thought about the disco was fun and cool like: “Amy said that it was fun and Dave the disco was very good”. “Niamh thought it was really cool and how everybody got involved with it.” “Liam thought that the disco was awesome.” World Book Day 2015 By Abbie (Year 6) On the 5th of March we celebrated World Book Day. There was a book stall, classes read to each other, we started our read for a week and Mrs Ward very kindly gave us all a free book! Which book did you choose? World book day was fun for the whole school because everyone had fun reading and sharing books. Amy (year 6) said, “I liked reading to Miss Haywards class. And also I had fun because the books were at bargain prices so I bought lots.” She loves her free book from Mrs Ward. Riley (Reception said that he loves his dinosaur poops alot book. We all had a wonderful day looking at different books and we can’t wait to read our new ones! I have interviewed some children from different classes to ask them what they did: Naimh (year 6) said, “She felt happy buying books for my brother and the best thing was that the books were 10p each.” She also had fun reading her new free book from Mrs Ward. New and Blue! It was really exciting when we got our brand new, dark blue carpets. We also had a sparkly, light blue, pretty sensational floor. We were shocked when we saw the carpet and floor it was the greatest thing ever I was so, so, so shocked when I saw the new floor and carpet. Cadhla said “that I think it’s quite beautiful.” Mrs Byron thinks that they are wonderful and brighten up the school. We love our new carpets and are taking good care of them! Fun Stuff Can you complete the maze? Film Review By Sean (year 4) and Abbie (Year 6) Justin and the Knights of Valour It is about a boy that wants to become a knight. Rhys (from year 4) said: He liked the crazy wizard (the purple clothed one in the picture) and he would rate it five stars! We think you would really enjoy this film because it is exciting and funny, it will knock your socks off! We rate this film 4 stars! Super SATs By Megan and Naimh Year 6 and Year 2 have been doing there SATs for 4 days. Year 6 have been doing there SATs so they would know what classroom they are in Secondary School. The 14th of May was the last day of SATs but Year 6 did enjoy it. Abbie said, “On the first maths I got a bit stuck but I enjoyed the rest of them.” Naimh agreed and said, “They were tricky, but I think I did OK.” After are SATs had finished, Mrs Byron talked about us about secondary school. Year 6 had lots of questions about it and they are really looking forward to going to their new school. This Issue’s Competitions Good luck to all competitors. The winner will get a special certificate and a special prize in assembly! COMPETITION We have just started a new competition! To win the special prize you have to create a picture about summer! You could paint or draw it! There will be a winner from key stage 1 and key stage 2. The winners will be announced in assembly. Have fun! Entries into Amy S in year 6. Foxes Piece Play Football By Josh (year 6) and Sean (year 4). On the 5th of May, the Year 6 and 5 football team played a game against St Peters. The squad included Josh, Haydn, Tyler , Zain, Alyann, Jerrel and Harry. Before the match, we interviewed Mr Tapping to see what he thought our chances are; “out seven players our very talented, I think we have a good chance against the other team.” Depsite excellent ball skills shown on the Foxes Piece team, the final result was 4-3 to St. Peters. However, the football team was happy with the results and can’t wait to play another match! Netball Success By Alisha (Year 6) We had a great match between St. Peters and Foxes Piece School On Tuesday 5th May 2015. We travelled on a mini bus to get to St. Peters . We all had butterflies fluttering in our stomachs. It was a draw, the first half St. Peters were winning but tragedy struck! Foxes Piece had redeemed themselves in the second half by scorring two goals. Alisha says, “it was a very tricky match, but we tried our best and just went for it!” Amy agreedn and added, “it was very fun and we are glad that we drew.” Hopefully we can play more netbal matches in the future!
