First Grade News Issue No. 9 Hot Off the Press… Although the year is winding down, we still have much ground to cover. Children are reminded that we need to remain focused on the task of learning and putting forth our best effort at all times both academically and socially. We appreciate your continued support of school functions, nightly reading, homework, and timely return of library books. In May we will be doing our end of the year reading assessments. These are done individually so it takes a while to meet with every student to complete the evaluation. We are finishing up the PALS testing this week and will begin the DRA testing next week. I encourage you to continue to challenge your child over the summer with reading, writing and math skills. Just because it is summer does not mean that all learning stops. Have your children keep a journal so he/she can continue to keep up good handwriting as well as sentence formation. Sign up for the Summer Reading Program at the Sterling Library and get your child reading every day. There are some great websites out there as well. Feel free to check out the school’s website for some links to some fun learning games.
