WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE CLINICAL NEUROPHYSIOLOGY OUTPATIENTS (Nerve Conduction Studies for the investigation of Carpel Tunnel Syndrome) WILL NOW BE AVAILABLE ON E-REFERRAL SYSTEM (CHOOSE & BOOK) AS A DIRECTLY BOOKABLE SERVICE Existing arrangements for booking appointments at OUH Currently most services at the OUH are booked through GP CaB systems using an indirect bureau. Directly Bookable Services (DBS) offer the distinct advantage that the patient can have direct access to a date and time for an appointment and if by some chance appointments are not available, by selecting ‘Defer to Provider’ the list of patients waiting for an appointment electronically sits within each department who will have to increase capacity to accommodate the appointments. New Directly Bookable Service for Clinical Neurophysiology From Monday 11 January 2016, Clinical Neurophysiology Outpatients will be able to offer a directly bookable service to GPs for patients requiring Nerve Conduction Studies (in the investigation of Carpel Tunnel Syndrome only). The GP surgery will generate an appointment referral request with appropriate priority (urgent or routine) for the service on the E-Referral System (CaB) and UBRN in the usual way. To select a directly booked appointment see the attached appendix which shows how to use the book system An electronic proforma or appropriate letter needs to be attached to the E-Referral System (CaB) by the surgery within 48hrs for a routine or urgent appointment. In the case that the Trust cannot provide an immediate appointment, ‘Defer to Provider’ can be selected and Trust processes will be in place to contact the patient within 48 hours for an urgent or routine appointment. 18WW Clock will start on the date the GP or patient makes the appointment booking. GPs should check their patients have appointments on their E-referral System (CaB) worklist. This applies to all appointment requests made through the E-Referral System (CaB). Safeguarding Information The E-Referral System (CaB) is the preferred method of referral for GPs referring to the OUH. This supports the safeguarding of patient information and provides an audit trail for referrals.
