Value of Hospitality
Until few years ago, there were many people who tended to neglect the importance
of hospitality. Due to the fact that hospitality industry is a service industry, many
people thought that it is not a good idea to major in hospitality. They thought the
jobs, which require serving people are only suitable to low class people. However,
those people are definitely wrong. Unlike what people normally think about
hospitality industry, hospitality industry is much more than just serving people.
When most people think about hospitality industry, they usually think about hotel.
The major reason is that people who major in hospitality always end up working at
hotels. Well, until few years ago, most of the people who major in hospitality ended
up working at hotels. However, right now, majoring hospitality industry does not
mean that he or she will always end up working at hotels. The reason is that unlike
other universities, which allow you to have only one major degree at the end of
college year, professional hospitality schools allow you to have one degree of
hospitality and another business of bachelor at the end of the college year.
Therefore, many graduate students from hospitality major are not only scouted to
five star hotels but also scouted from various kinds of industries such as fashion
industry, finance institutions, big event management industries and vice versa.
Many people might wonder how people who major in hospitality are scouted to
various kinds of industries. Many people often do not realize but hospitality
industry is one of the world’s largest, and fastest growing industries. As it is the
world’s largest, and fastest growing industries, hospitality industry also offers a
wide range of exciting careers in business related travel and tourism, hotels and
food & beverage, and events and leisure. In order for hospitality major students to
have wide range of exciting careers, the hospitality schools provide students with
courses that will enable them to have wide range of exciting careers. For example, in
Les Roches International School of Hotel Management Switzerland, all
undergraduate students are supposed to study the Bachelor of Business Degree. Just
because of the name “Business Degree”, many people might misunderstand that
students are only studying business. However, they are mistaken. For 1st semester,
3rd semester, and 4th semester, students learn about hotels such as service room
division, kitchen room division, and administration. Then, for 2nd and 5th semester,
students have the opportunity work as intern at any hotels around the world. Then,
at the 4th year of the school (last year of the school), Les Roches gives students 6
ways to Bachelor of Business Admission for students’ specific preferred
specialization. Students can choose to do BBA in International Hotel Management
with Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing, Innovation and Sustainability, Culinary
Business, or Event Management.
When I was young, I wanted to major in hospitality because I just really liked hotel.
However, as I get older, the reason why I want to major in hospitality changed from
have career that will enable me to work in hotels to work in condition that will

enable me to move around the world and interact with different kinds of ethnicities.
As I am a type of person who enjoys making people happy, travelling and learning
about different kinds of cultures around the world, I thought majoring hospitality
would be perfect choice for me. The reason is that the hospitality industry will
definitely offer me a stimulating, international work environment and a wide array
of career paths and job opportunities.
If you are a type of person who likes to interact with people, make them satisfy, and
travel and learn about different cultures instead of just sitting in office and work all
day in office, I think majoring in hospitality will be perfect choice for you. As I
mentioned, majoring in hospitality will enable you to move around the world and
work in an international environment and learn more about the world. Therefore, if
you want to have exciting careers, think about majoring in hospitality. I think you
will never regret.
