Oct 26: FAMILY GIFT SUNDAY - All Saints Day Festival! GOALS: To offer a family friendly event that helps families learn more about their Catholic faith. (Our theme this year is Faith for your Family!) To expose our students to a variety of saints through games, crafts, stories, movies, food OR activities To celebrate the lives of the saints To give 7th OR 8th grade students the opportunity to learn more about a particular saint and be a leaders by sharing that information with the younger grades. (Participation for 7 & 8 is up to the individual catechist for each class. If 7th & 8th grade would rather have their own class time, I will advertise our festival for Pre-6th only; and I will ask 6th grade if they’d like to plan a booth ) To connect with our Young At Heart parishioners by extending an invitation to them to come, esp for our parade of saints : ) Schedule for Oct 26 1. 9:45-10a - Opening: Prayer (Litany of Saints read by HS? or other class…any volunteers?) & Instructions for the Festival 2. 10-10:30a – Festival a. Tables/Booths/Stations set up around the perimeter of the gym. b. Craft/Food Stations set up in the cafeteria. c. Movie viewing (2 different shows: 1 appropriate for older kids/1 for younger) will take place in the library and in our Preschool Classroom. d. Other wings to the school will be closed off unless 7 & 8 opt to hold class & need their classrooms. e. At each station, there will be a stamp pad and stamp so that kids can collect stamps in a “passport” once they have visited the station and can tell the station manager something about the saint who is connected to the activity. Kids must show their passport with at least 5 stamps to receive a goody bag. (I will make the passports; provide stamps & stamp pads & put together goody bags.) 3. 10:30-10:45a - Closing: Pumpkin Prayer & Parade of Saints Students will be invited to dress up as a saint and participate in the parade of saints. Young At Heart members will be invited & will be seated in chairs around the perimeter of the gym so that anyone in costume can parade past them. (YAH will be provided with candy/treats to drop in bags of those in costume!) Who will create the Booths/Tables/Stations: Option 1: 7th & 8th grade students pick a saint in pairs—Come up with the activity & make a sign (8 1/2 x11 sheet)--I provide the materials & have their booth set up—THEY run the booth. 7th & 8th grade students would pair in class to choose one saint from a list to find more information and create the activity (game/craft/challenge/treat/story) that they could set up as a learning activity at a table in the gym or cafeteria. For example, there are 36 students in 7th grade, this would mean we’d have 18 pairs, each with a saint = 18 different booths. Some time in class would have to be provided to choose the saint/brainstorm (I can provide books/saint files.) 7th & 8th gr students could exchange contact information in pairs to work on it via social media. (If 7th & 8th don’t participate, 6th graders would be best working on this in class. ) Proposal Due: Oct 12 This is meant to be active & purposeful learning. □ The plan must be written down on the template provided. (“All Saints Day Table Planner”) □ If materials are needed, they are welcome to bring; but I can also supply. We are not asking the kids to spend any money! (We have a lot of craft supplies available. And I can make copies for anyone who creates or finds a worksheet or coloring page.) □ A sign identifying the saint must be made out of 8 ½ x 11 sheet (We’ll provide.). □ The pairs of students would stay with their booth for the entire festival, helping the younger grades to do the activity & sharing fun facts about the saint they chose. Option 2: Each GIFT class/catechist, Pre-8 would be offered the opportunity to come up with an idea for a booth. I fill in any holes. If 7th & 8th are participating, pairs can be assigned to run the booths. (6th graders may still want to create/man a booth.) If 7th & 8th choose not to participate, booths can be created & run by 6th graders . We could also opt to have catechists run the booths.
