CLASS TITLE: MARINE RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - FMRI
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is marine resource work at the Florida Marine Research Institute preparing written reports based
on the development, collection, curation, and/or interpretation of scientific information.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Does routine identifications of marine animal and plant specimens and consults experts on
more difficult species identifications.
Prepares reports on assigned marine resource subjects pertaining to agency programs or
operations.
Verifies marine resource data bases and develops operating protocols.
Analyzes data under the supervision of a Research Scientist or Research Administrator.
Acts as crew chief for field research teams.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of one of the physical or natural sciences or mathematics.
Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of research and analysis.
Ability to collect and analyze data.
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, polices and procedures.
Ability to prepare written reports.

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS




A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one
of the physical or natural sciences or mathematics and two years of experience in one of the
physical or natural sciences or mathematics; or
Two years of experience as a Marine Research Assistant - FMRI.
A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one
of the educational areas listed above can substitute for one year of the required experience.
A doctorate from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the
educational areas listed above can substitute for the required experience.
