Ben Kennedy, Thomas Wilson, Geological Sciences Development of the University of Canterbury Volcanic Hazards Simulation Website Synopsis of the Project The Volcanic Hazards Simulation is a multi-hour, collaborative face-to-face exercise in which 300-400 level students in geological sciences and hazard management manage a volcanic eruption event. Central to the simulation are geological data streams provided to the students on which they base their decisions. Currently, these streams are delivered through a website. Observation and student interview data showed several technical and pedagogical issues with the current website design. (eg data display, instructor master control, pausing and rewinding the data stream). With this grant, we aim to remedy the issues identified to make for a more rewarding student experience.
