Welcome To Lorne Park Secondary School! Orientation Day for New Students will take place on Wednesday September 2, 2015 from 9:00 until 11:00. At this time students will be able to: Have their picture taken for the yearbook and student card. o Students may purchase a photo package if they wish. Pay their student activity fee. Receive their student card. Receive their timetable of courses. Students receive an Agenda, a copy of Code of Conduct and a calendar for the school year Receive a Bus Card (for eligible students in the Regional Enhanced Program). Have a tour of the school. Lorne Park Mentors will provide tours of the school and answer questions that the new students may have about the school or their individual timetable. Any new students unable to attend the New Student Orientation Day may register during our Regular Registration Periods on: Tuesday September 1 from 9:00 – 12:00 and 1:00 – 3:00 Wednesday September 2 from 1:00 – 3:00 Tuesday September 8 from 8:30 – 11:00 Tuesday September 8 will be the first day of class. It will be a regular school day. Classes begin at 8:20 AM and end at 2:35 PM. Wednesday, September 9 – All Grade 9 students will participate in Mentor Day orientation activities. Thursday, September 10 – All Grade 9 students will attend an information assembly. Lockers will be assigned to students through their Homeforms during the first few days of class. Students may bring their own combination lock or, if necessary, purchase one in the front office at a cost of $5.00. We look forward to seeing you! The program enhancements offer students opportunities outside of their academic classes. Often these experiences become the most memorable part of a student’s school career. The student activity fee for the 2015-16 school year is $25.00 . This amount will be used for: $15.00 $10.00 Student Activity Council activities such as intramurals, student club subsidies, special events for student clubs and subsidies for the extra-curricular music program. Athletic activities such as prizes for intramurals, subsidies for extra-curricular tournaments, transportation costs, and referee fees. We also offer students the opportunity to purchase a school yearbook for $35.00. Students who choose to join athletic teams during the school year will be charged a sport specific fee to support specific team costs. School Council Contribution Parents are also invited to consider making a contribution to the Lorne Park School Council fund raising. School Council is an elected group of parents who use funds to support student learning and the learning environment at Lorne Park. Funds are used to support the annual Graduation ceremony, to bring in guest speakers for student workshops and to purchase equipment that supports student learning. Any amount of contribution is greatly appreciated. Contributions of $25 or more will be eligible for Charitable Donation tax receipts. Please consult the enclosed brochure from Edge Imaging for a package and bring in the appropriate amount of money at registration time. Lockers Lockers will be assigned through Homeforms. Due to the limited number of available lockers, students are required to share with another student. Please bring your Dudley combination lock as your locker may be assigned on the first day. Locks are also available for purchase for $5.00 from the office.
