CURRICULUM CONSIDERATIONS WITH ACTION TO FOLLOW
The Curriculum and Instruction Committee has recommended to the Office of Instructional
Administration that the following course changes and additions be approved. Changes will not become
effective until after administrative and Board of Trustees approval.
A.
BUSINESS & COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY: Gary Woods presented the following curriculum
proposal:
CHANGE — DESCRIPTION — Effective SUMMER 2012
BUS 11A BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS
3 units
Recommended Preparation: Bus 112 or Engl 100.
Principles of effective business writing and oral communication skills. Develop writing skills for
goodwill, negative news, persuasive, and employment messages. Prepare business presentations
and practice professionalism at work. Total of 54 hours lecture.
Transfer Credit: CSU
MSC MILLER/STARBIRD to approve the changes to the above credit curriculum.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION CENTER: Rick Hodge and Paul Martin presented the following
curriculum proposal:
CHANGE — TITLE, DESCRIPTION, HOURS — Effective SUMMER 2012
HSDP 5480 STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AND ACADEMIC PLANNING
Effective personal, social, and academic relations in academic and social environments. Strategies
for improving performance on standardized tests, interpersonal skills, confidence building, and time
management. Survey of educational and occupational opportunities and requirements. Total of 54
hours lecture.
MSC FINKENBINDER/STORMS to approve the changes to the above noncredit curriculum.
C.
KINESIOLOGY, HEALTH & ATHLETICS: Kent Yamauchi, Sheri Stoddard, and Bianca Richards
presented the following curriculum proposal:
CHANGE — DESCRIPTION, REPEATABILITY, PREREQUISITE — Effective SUMMER 2012
PEACT 27 ADAPTED FITNESS ACTIVITIES
1 unit
Prerequisite: Recommendation by Disabled Students Programs and Services or Student Health
Services.
Emphasis on exercises to increase level of physical, motor and postural fitness through training with
weights, stretching exercises and relaxation techniques. For students unable to participate in
regular physical education activities because of temporary or permanent limitations. Maximum
credit 4 units, 1 unit each semester. Total of 54 hours laboratory.
Transfer Credit: CSU; UC credit limitations. See counselor.
MSC STARBIRD/OGAZ to approve the changes to the above credit curriculum.
MSC OGAZ/FINKENBINDER to approve the prerequisite change to the above credit curriculum.

COMMITTEE DISCUSSION
Normal Closing Numbers memo update: The target date has been moved to fall semester, not May 6.
IV.
ACTION TO PLACE ITEMS ON FUTURE AGENDAS
There will be a full C&I committee meeting on April 28.
