Absent: Aylmer, Poore.
Call to Order: 12:05 p.m.
1. MSC: (Randel/Krannig) to approve the minutes of the April 8, 2008 division meeting as presented.
2. MSC: (Abram/Coleman) to approve: Janson’s History of Art: The Western Tradition-Vol. I as a required
textbook for Art 101.
3. MSC: (Abram/Coleman) to approve: Early Medieval Art by L. Nees as a required textbook for Art 105.
4. MSC: (Abram/Coleman) to approve: Signs and Symbols in Christian Art with Illustrations from Paintings
from the Renaissance by G. Ferguson as a required textbook for Art 105.
5. MSC: (Abram/Coleman) to approve: Art of the Middle Ages by J. Benton as a required textbook
for
Art
105.
6. MSC: (Abram/Coleman) to approve: Reclaiming Female Agency: Feminist Art History after Post
Modernism as a required textbook for Art 118.
7. MSC: (Green/Randel) to approve: On Music of the World as the required CD ROM for the online Music
127 class.
8. MSC: (Yamamoto/Watanabe) to approve: Photography as a required replacement textbook for Photo 109.
9. MSC: (Randel/Farr) to approve: The Stanislavsky System–the Professional Training of an Actor as a
required textbook for Theatre Arts 103.
10. MSC: (Randel/Farr) to approve: Actions-The Actor’s Thesaurus as a recommended book for Theatre Arts
103.
11. MSC: (Krannig/McMurrey) to approve the first reading for Dance 133–Salsa II.
12. MSC: (Krannig/McMurrey) to approve changes to the Dance Teaching Certificate.
13. MSC: (Delto/Stern) to approve the revision to the Music Certificate (addition of Music 178 as an elective).
14. Senate Report (Dickes) reported on the following issues:
 a 360o evaluation for administrators;
 instructor’s student evaluations conducted by students;
 F/W grading will not be an option;
 Incomplete Grades – the makeup date has been extended;
 plus/minus grading has been rejected;
 revised Minimum Quals. worksheet will require the signature of the VP of the Senate;
 a recommendation to build an adjunct resource office;
 a motion was made to recommend that Divisions offer adjunct mentoring.
15. Minimum Class Size for Summer and Winter is 20 students – faculty were encouraged to
advertise classes they know will be slow to fill as the Administration will cancel low enrolled
classes early to allow students to be able to get into another class. Faculty can also alert
EOPS, Jeanette Stirdivant, and Jewel Price for help in getting student referrals.
16. The Revised Mission Statement was presented.
17. Internally Load Banked Hours - the division office keeps track of the fractional amounts of
faculty overload time, but only up to 3 banked hours and for no more than three semesters.
(after this they go on the formal ledger). See Rob for info on your banked hours. Summer &

Winter limits on ProRata pay were discussed.
18. Supply Vouchers & Materials Fee Balances – balances in these accounts should zero out at
the end of the year. Money should be spent or the fees should be lowered. A meeting will be
held on May 27 for those involved. Also a new justification form will be required to be filled
out for classes with supply voucher fees.
19. Funding Wish List – departments that are not able to get what they need are asked to fill out the Wish
List (attached). This will provide a coordinated list of needs for outside funding.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
 Rob Kibler announced his intent to retire Dec. 18, 2008.
 Trudi is looking for volunteers to work with her on Standard Three (Resources) for Accreditation.
 Roger - the opening reception for the Annual Student Art Show will be tomorrow, Wednesday,
5/14/08, from 12-1 pm. in the Art Gallery.
 Lynn – Dance Performance 2008 opens Tuesday, May 27, and runs through Sunday, June 1, 2008.
There will be matinee performances as well as evening performances.
 Ted reminded the division that the GCC phone number to use in case of an emergency is 4000.
 Peter - the GCC Concert Singers Performance is next Sunday (May 18) at 4 pm at St. Mark’s Episcopal
Church. The repertoire will feature “Dona Nobis Pacem” by Vaughan Williams. Beth Pflueger
contracted the Orchestra.
 Mike - Film Festival this Friday, the 16th at 6:30 p.m. at the Alex Theatre.
 Jayne – Spring Concert, Saturday evening, May 31, at 7:30 pm in the GCC Auditorium, featuring Opera
Vignettes.
 David Attyah – a Drawing Marathon is being held on Sunday, May 18th from 12 noon to 8pm. The
theme will be CIRCUS, CIRCUS!
 Jeanette - June 5, 6, 7, 2008 at 8:00 PM – Three nights only! Motel Chronicles. Six – 10-minute plays
directed by GCC students in the Studio Theatre.
 There will be no June Division Meeting.
