Dear Rye High School Parents:
Summer is almost over and we are busy planning for the start of the 2015-2016 school year. Students need to come
to school on the first day, August 17th, with pens, pencils and paper. If additional supplies will be required,
individual teachers will notify students on the first day of school. Students can check out a lock for their locker for a
$5.00 refundable fee (only RHS locks can be used on lockers). The five dollars will be returned when the lock is
returned at the end of the school year. Information for ordering/paying for pictures is on the back of this letter.
Freshmen will have their pictures taken Aug. 13th and sophomores, juniors and seniors will have their pictures
taken Aug. 17th. Separate checks will be needed for school lunch purchases, locks, school pictures and school
fees/fines/insurance.
All students will receive a class schedule the first day of school. A drop-add period of time will occur the first week
of school only. Students can make changes to their schedules with parent permission only. Seniors, along with a
parent, will be required to set an appointment up with Mrs. Jordan. She is sending all seniors a letter with this
information. Following is a calendar of important upcoming dates for parents and students:

Junior/Sophomore student/parent meeting
A mandatory student/parent fall athletic meeting

It is recommended that all parents attend the above, appropriate parent meetings. Online information packets
must be completed prior to laptops being issued at each parent meeting. Parents can access student
information and do mandatory updates and paperwork online through the District 70 website (through Parent
Portal). If you are unable to access a computer to complete this process prior to computer check out at the parent
meetings, contact the school and we will arrange for you to come up to the school to complete the process before the
meeting. If you are unable to attend any of the meetings, please make sure you complete the online information
packet. Your student will not be enrolled or issued a computer until this packet has been completed. Laptop
insurance will be available to purchase in the amount of $50 or at a reduced rate for those who qualify.
Just freshmen students are requested to attend school on August 13th beginning at 1:00pm. During
this time, students will get a tour of the school, meet their teachers, get their computers and will participate in
general orientation activities. Parents of freshman are asked to attend The Freshman Orientation
Meeting at 5:00pm to receive valuable information regarding your child’s high school years. This is a very
important meeting for the freshman students and parents so please plan to attend.
Sincerely,
Michelle Mann
Principal
