Amgen Biotechnology Experience Workshop A: Labs 1 and 5 This free training covers the overview of the Amgen Biotech Experience curriculum and its alignment to NGSS. Participants will gain hands-on practice of Micropipettes, Gel Electrophoresis, and Bacterial Transformation. Trained teachers would be eligible to borrow researchgrade lab equipment and obtain reagents and supplies to teach these labs at their respective schools. Workshop A is a pre-requisite for Workshop B (Labs 2 and 4), Workshop C (Lab 6), and Workshop D (Colony PCR Lab). White and red colonies obtained from the ABE bacterial transformation experiment (Lab 5) will be tested for gene differences. DNA from individual colonies will be amplified through polymerase chain reaction and analyzed by gel electrophoresis. This lab demonstrates the connection of phenotypes and genotypes.
