Issue 1 September 2014 Hello, Welcome back to school! I would like to welcome all our new children and staff to the school, especially Year 3 who have settled in beautifully. Working together, we will continue to be successful in the future to ensure that all children reach their full potential. NEW SCHOOL DAY and ATTENDANCE AND TIMEKEEPING Please remember our school gates open at 8.30am and children have a “soft start” at 8.45am with registration at 8.55am. The school day ends at 3.10pm and after school clubs start (see booklet). We finish 5 minutes before the Infant school so please, if you need to, collect your junior children first then walk across to the Infant playground It is important you are in the playground to collect your child at 3.10pm unless they are booked into a club. Thank you for your support with this. BUILDING PROJECTS I am sure you have noticed the maze area is now fenced off. This area will be the site of two new classrooms we are building to prepare for the second “bulge” class expected in September 2015. The work should be completed before Christmas and is due to commence the week before half term. We are also building a dining room extension to accommodate the extra children having lunch. I will be sending a letter home shortly that will explain in more detail what these projects involve. We will put the plans for these projects outside the school office. READING AT HOME AND READING EGGS Perhaps the most important homework we need to do with our children is reading. We shouldn’t treat it as homework though, rather a great chance to spend some quality time with our children. Even Year 6 children enjoy sharing a book and reading aloud. If you want some advice about reading have a chat with your child’s teacher. SCHOOL UNIFORM We take great pride in our school and want all children to be in the correct school uniform all year. If you have difficulties obtaining the correct uniform especially shoes please make an appointment to see me. We would also like to remind you once again that, as a matter of Health and Safety, simple studs are the only permitted type of earring and nail polish is not part of our school uniform. Please ensure all uniform is clearly labeled. Black school shoes only, trainers are permitted for PE. REMEMBER THE ONE WAY SYSTEM! Let’s work together to make the journey to school a safe one! Parking and walking is a better way to start the day than struggling through traffic. Nearby side streets continue to have parking spaces and are all just a short 5 minute walk away. DINNER MONEY Dinner money for this term is £74.80 for first half term £77.00 for second half term £154.80 for term. Dinner money must be paid at least weekly on first Monday. £11.00 per week. SCHOOL CLUBS and EXTRA ACTIVITIES Look out for the club letter for after school and lunchtime clubs on offer this term. In our school reception area parents can find a file with details of after school clubs and activities offered by Barnet and companies in the local area. Please feel free to have a look and take details. CARD PAYMENTS We now have a credit card machine in school and you will be able to use this to pay for school meals, uniform, music lessons and trips, minimum card payment £5.00. Smaller fees can be settled with cash. Cheques are still welcome if you prefer. HOLIDAY REQUESTS Joe Duggan our Education Welfare Officer writes… Parents have no right to remove their children from school for the purpose of a holiday. Parents may request permission for an absence in exceptional circumstances; but a holiday is not considered an exceptional circumstance. This advice is based on the Education Regulations 2006 and amendment in 2013. Parents should be aware that failure to request leave of absence or defying the decision of a head teacher could lead to the issuing of Fixed-Penalty Notice of up to £120 per parent per child. REMEMBER Jeans for Genes day is this Friday the 19 September. Staff and children can wear jeans if they bring in a contribution to this wonderful charity. Children will still need to wear their Deansbrook sweatshirts. th DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Tues 16th Sept – Yr 4 PGL meeting at 6pm Weds 17th Sept – Swimming – 4C Weds 17th Sept – School Photos Weds 17th Sept – Forest Schools – 4G Fri 19th Sept – Jeans for Genes Day Tues 21st Oct – Parents Evening 4.30 – 7pm Thurs 23rd Oct – Inset Day – NO SCHOOL FOR PUPILS HALF TERM – Monday 27th Oct – Friday 31st Oct Mon 3rd Nov – School re-opens .
