Curriculum Vitae (CV) Maria Glícia da Nóbrega Coutinho, PhD Geologist. CPRM – The Geological Survey of Brazil Graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc.) in Geology from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil. From 1990 to 1995 she obtained her M.Sc. (MPhil) and Ph.D. in Geology from the Royal Holloway and BedFord College, University of London, England, U.K., and focused her studies on mineral deposits. Her thesis work supported by the – Brazilian Council for Research and Development (CNPq) was entitled ”The Geology of the Shear-zone Host Gold Deposits in Northeast Brazil”. Her career begun at the National Department of Mineral Production – DNPM, Minister of Mines and Energy, working in assessment of potassium and magnesium deposits at the petroliferous basin of Sergipe-Alagoas in Northeast of Brazil, from 1968 to 1971. Today these deposits are exploited by Vale, a Brazilian mining private company. From 1971 to present day she works for CPRM – The Geological Survey of Brazil, Minister of Mines and Energy. In 1971 she spent one year at the United States Geological Survey, Marine Geology Institute, Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. Upon her return, she worked in the Project Global Reconnaissance of the Brazilian Continental Platform (REMAC Project), under Petrobras coordination for five years. After REMAC project’s completion she became head of the CPRM Sedimentary Laboratory, mainly involving with pan concentered mineralogical reconnaissance to support geological mapping and geochemistry studies. In early 80’s, she moved to Geology Department to work in regional geological mapping. She coordinated development of the Geological Map of Brazil, scale 1: 2.5000.000 and co-authored the book Geology of Brazil, published in 1981 and 1984, respectively. She published the “Map of Gold Mineralization Prevision Areas in Brazil”, 1: 5.000.000 (internal publication). Upon she return from London University, in 1995, she joined the team in Mineral Resources Department involved with gold prospections in Brazil. After ten years of work in the Amazon region, she published the book “Tapajós Mineral Province, Amazon: Geology, Metallogeny and Prevision Map of Gold in GIS”, 2008. Since earliest 2000’s, she is the head of CPRM International Affairs Office, responsible for cooperation with foreign countries all over the world. As Board Member of the OneGeology Consortium – an international initiative of the geological surveys of the world, she is coordinating the OneGeology activities in Latin America. She is member of Geological Society of London, Brazilian Geological Society and International Association of Genesis Ore Deposits. Recently, she was re-elected for the second time Director of the Engineering Club of Rio de Janeiro, a non-profit organization funded by the Imperial Decree no 8.253, 10th September, 1880, where she does a volunteer work.
