The University of York Learning and Teaching Award (YLTA) - mapped to existing workshops and the UK Professional Standards Framework The University of York Learning and Teaching Award, YLTA is a 9 month accredited, credit bearing programme which runs annually from October – June. It is accredited by the Higher Education Academy at Associate Fellowship level (D1). On successful completion of the programme students are able to use the post-nominal letters AFHEA. Completion of the one day ‘Introduction to Learning and Teaching’ course or the two day Intensive Residential for PGWT is a pre-requisite for the programme. Students must have also secured teaching opportunities and have the support of their academic supervisor and departmental PGWT co-ordinator. Students must complete ALL FOUR STRANDS AT THE TIMES INDICATED TO BE ELIGIBILE. Strand 1. Supporting Student Learning in Higher Education 2. This is achieved through pedagogic theory and research and exploration of the quality assurance mechanisms employed. A5, K5 & K6 V1 – V4 K3 & K4 By the end of the strand students will be able to: -critically evaluate a range of pedagogic theories and related them to facilitating student learning -examine ways of evaluating your own teaching -recognise the QA processes and reputation benchmarks employed at institutional and global level. -review a range of reflective writing styles - produce and peer review a reflective teaching log. Programme team with academic support office and invited academic staff Students will each produce and peer review a piece of reflective writing. The use of pedagogic literature is assessed in Strand 3 and throughout the portfolio. -Pedagogic reading group -Workshops run by the University L&T 3. Learning and Teaching Symposium N/A 10 & 11 March 2016 To provide students with an opportunity to communicate their teaching approach and use of literature to support their practice. Students must demonstr ate how their paper maps to the PSF. By the end of the strand students will have: -presented a 10 minute paper on an aspect of learning teaching to a group of peers and academic staff. -given formative feedback to their peers -Academic career: CVs and Interviews Academic careers: interview skills -Professional Development Planning -Hidden aspects of an academic career How to complete your portfolio 18 May 2016 To introduce students to the range of activities involved in an academic career & provide practical support for students in securing academic roles within Higher Education. V1-V4 By the end of the strand students will to able to: -produce a personal statement based around the PSF professional values -develop their academic CV -prepare for and demonstrate their capability in a mock academic interview - apply the feedback on their statement, CV and interview to produce with a Professional Development Plan Ongoing N/A The content of the portfolio & reflective practice online tutorial will explicitly map to the PSF N/A View the 2015 programme. 4. Professional Practice and Academic Career Development Students also have access to a dedicated VLE of L&T resources and an online tutorial which supports them through the practical elements of portfolio construction.
