Orzechowska e-mail: orzechg@piercecollege.edu Web page http://faculty.piercecollege.edu/orzechg Section 8137 meets in the Laboratory on Mondays Lectures with Prof. Ogar BOOKS Laboratory Manual: Chemistry 102 Laboratory Manual 2e Laboratory notebook/draft Lab Report On-line resources: Pierce moodle is our official and mandatory on-line site for our lab class. You need to have your Pierce moodle account. It is your responsibility to check the moodle for all information pertaining to our class, grades, and lab report submissions. Laboratory guidelines No make up for labs will be possible. Please set your schedule accordingly to this course meeting time. Safety Goggles (you may purchase them in the bookstore or from any other sources) are mandatory in the lab. You need to bring to class the Chemistry 102 Laboratory Manual 2e and the notebook. The lab manual is available in the Pierce bookstore. Wearing goggles and following laboratory safety procedures will be strictly enforced. Attire: - You must wear pants that cover ankles. - No skirts are allowed-unless required by Religious/Cultural reasons; they have to be long enough to cover ankles - You must wear closed toed & closed heeled shoes. Sandals, high-heel etc., shoes, are not permitted in the lab. Tank tops and shorts are not allowed in the lab. Long hair need to be tied back and secured. If you come to the lab wearing improper attire you will be excused and you will lose points for that experiment. LAB REPORTS AND GRADES 1. Lab reports will be submitted and graded on-line through the Turnitin assignments posted in our moodle class. The grade will be directly posted to your moodle grades. 2. Each laboratory experiment is worth of 10 points, but the longer experiments will be worth of 20 points. 3. The % grade from your laboratory will be sent to Prof. Ogar. 4. You will have to complete all laboratory experimental parts, document them in your labnotebook/draft lab reports including calculations, and receive my signature before leaving the laboratory class. 5. At the end of a laboratory exercise we will be working on a draft of lab report related to that experiment. At home, you will have to edit your draft report, tape it, and then submit before the deadline via our moodle to Turnitin site. Note: Turnitin accepts only doc. format! 6. Reports submitted via e-mail, handed it, or submitted late will not be accepted and graded. 7. Identical lab reports are considered to be a plagiarism. You will receive a grade 0 and you will be reported to the Chair of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. In order to be able to complete lab exercises and generate drafts of reports you need to come prepared- read the experiment carefully and prepare your notebook/draft lab report for an experiment. You will be given complete guidelines as to how to prepare your notebook for a given lab experiment and a lab report. Follow these carefully.
