A publicly available geodemogrphic classification however has been developed for Northern Ireland as part of a UK classification system based on the 2001 census. This project will employ a similar but different methodological approach to the UK classification system and will for the first time present a publicly available geodemographic classification for the Republic of Ireland. Furthermore it is proposed to present a classification system for the island of Ireland which will be of significant interest to governments, North and South, in addition to policy makers, planners, estate agents, banks and retailers. It is envisaged that the classification system will be of significant benefit to small retailers who are not in a position to afford commercially available geodemographic classification systems. It is envisaged that the system will be available either through the DIT or CSO websites. The UK classification system is available at the ONS website. How may a publicly available Irish geodemographic classification system be developed and presented?
