Meadowridge School Parent/Guardian Field Trip Information Letter (Parents, please keep this letter as a reference, but return the attached Informed Consent Form to the school by the stated date) Your child will participate in activities related to Week Without Walls, Wednesday, September 14 – Friday, September 16, 2011. These activities are sanctioned by Meadowridge School. Activities that my child/charge may be involved in are post-secondary planning at Meadowridge School, walking to the Headmaster’s house in Academy Park, sleeping overnight at the school, travelling by bus to UBC, and participating on a ropes course at WildPlay. They may also be involved in some athletic activities at Meadowridge School. Students will be exposed to the normal risks of walking in a residential area, riding a bus, and playing sports. They will also be required to use their discretion during designated periods of free time at UBC and at Meadowridge School. Parents will also be required to read and sign a waiver in order for their child/charge to participate at WildPlay. I understand that during these activities, authorized Meadowridge staff, supervisory adults, as well as employees of other agencies associated with this activity will endeavour to instruct, protect, and care for the well-being of my child/charge as would I in their place, including making decisions regarding the medical care of my child/charge. I understand that my child/charge will be expected to uphold the behaviour expectations of Meadowridge students as in any other school endeavour. My child/charge will be expected to listen to and adhere to any rules, instructions, directions, requests, or advice given by authorized Meadowridge staff or supervisors, with the understanding that it is in the best interest of all participants. Therefore, my child/charge will be expected to act with responsibility, show respect and care for themselves and for others on the trips. I am aware that there are risks involved in these trips, and have decided that I am prepared to allow my child/charge to participate in the trips and all associated activities, including transportation to and from the sites. The bus transportation for all outings will be provided by Lynch Bus Lines or by Meadowridge School. Students will not be permitted to drive their own vehicles on these trips. Return the Parent Consent Form to the school no later than Monday, September 12th. - Itinerary - Wednesday, September 14th Post-secondary planning sessions are being held at the school. Lunch will be provided. In the evening, the students will be walking to Hugh Burke & Eva Boyd’s house for a Headmaster’s dinner. They will walk back to the school where they will sleep overnight. Students will wear their uniform during the school day but may change at 3:30. Students will need to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, sleeping mat, and overnight bag. We will be sleeping in the school. Students also need to pack ‘smart casual clothing for Thursday’s trip to UBC (no jeans). Thursday, September 15th Students will be leaving from Meadowridge School at 8:45am to go to UBC. Once there, they will have an information session with an admissions officer, get a guided tour of the campus, then have some time to meet with Meadowridge Alumni at UBC or visit areas on the campus of particular interest to them. The bus will leave UBC at 1:30, arriving back at Meadowridge by 3:30. There will be a drop-off at Coquitlam Centre. A light breakfast (grilled cheese) will be served at the cafeteria for breakfast: lunch is not provided. Friday, September 16th In the morning, the students will be doing an activity with their kindergarten buddy. In the afternoon, the students will be going to WildPlay, the adventure ropes course in Maple Ridge. They will be transported in the Meadowridge school bus. They will need to come to school in their #2 uniform for the kindergarten activity then change into clothing appropriate for the ropes course at Wildplay.
