Course Contributions
Information for Parents and Future Leaders
As well as an interest and level of skill within an art form, we also hope to identify Future Leaders who show an
entrepreneurial edge. Whilst our course will guide your child through the inner workings of the arts industry and
managing their own projects, it is also important for them to recognise a certain level of initiative, problem-solving, and
drive which comes along with becoming an arts leader.
Global Grooves has secured funding for a great deal of the course via Arts Council England and the National Foundation
for Youth Music. To cover the additional costs of the course, we ask that each Future Leader attempts to gather their
own course fee contribution to help towards the running costs of such an ambitious (and unique) course opportunity.
The total investment made in each Future Leader’s place is around £2,500.
The total cost for the 8-month programme to each Future Leaders is £200 (£50 per residential weekend).
[This works out at around £6 per week during the 8-month course, which may sound easier to achieve].
This course fee contributes towards tuition and mentoring support throughout the programme, resources such as
instruments, materials, and rehearsal space, accommodation, meals, and travel during the residential weekends.
There are many ways in which the Future Leaders can raise this small fee per weekend. Offering a workshop or activity
for a small participation fee could help them raise funds. In some cases your local council, school or arts organisation
may wish to support your child as a member of the community. Personal sponsorships from friends, school or family
may also be possible. For us, the message we are trying to pass on is that all Future Leaders should have at least tried to
gather their fee based on their sense of initiative and entrepreneurial spirit.
Please note that a limited amount of bursary places are available in cases where complete fundraising has not been
possible, and therefore no one should be discouraged from applying.
Funding route 1: Getting community support
The Future Leaders programme centres around developing the relationship between a young person and their
community - whether this is a local arts centre, a referring organisation, or school – with the aim of expanding arts
provision and expertise within their community with the new skills they have acquired though the course.
We expect that as young people apply, a dialogue between our mentors and organisations can be initiated whereby
agreements are made with community organisations to support the young person by covering their fees or by aiding
their distance learning work in various ways. Our mentors and team will (at least initially) help to steer this process
during the first stages of the Future Leader’s Induction (following the application stage).
Funding route 2: Getting support closer to home
In the event of a Future Leader not being able to secure support from an external channel, then personal fundraising can
be considered next. This could comprise of donations from friends, family, and the young person themselves. Where this
is not an option, we imagine our applicants will possess the necessary skills and initiative to organise a small fundraising
event. If you require further advice on this, contact us and one of our Future Leaders mentors would be happy to speak
with parents and/or young people directly.
A template ‘Sponsorship Form’ is available on the ‘Apply Here’ page of the Future Leaders website.
In the unlikely event that the young person is unable to secure their full funding through any of the above channels, we
advise applicants to get in touch with us. There are several bursary places available, though these are intended for cases
where it is not possible for the young person to raise any of the money via their own means.
Course Fee Contributions – Payment Deadlines
We are extremely flexible regarding payment methods (i.e. cheques or Paypal payments in advance, or if absolutely
necessary we would accept cash payments on the residential weekends). If paying in smaller, regular installments is
more convenient for an individual, please get in touch and we will individually accommodate your needs as best we can.
Fees should be received by Global Grooves two weeks in advance of the residential (unless otherwise arranged). Please
see the table below for exact dates of when payments should be made by.
