This weekend Red Bus and Canterbury Museum gave a little back to the New Zealand Defence Force
personnel who have been managing the access points to the central-city cordon on behalf of CERA
and the Police since the February 2011 earthquake.
As of Friday 28 June CERA will reduce the cordon around the City’s Rebuild Zone, ending the Defence
Force’s deployment around Christchurch City.
To say thank you, Red Bus (who run the CBD Red Zone Tours) and Canterbury Museum (who provide
commentary on the CBD Red Zone Tours and co-ordinate the Quake City attraction) offered all those
in the Reserve Task Group New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) who have been managing the cordon,
and their families a Red Zone tour and a Quake City experience.
“The Defence Force have done an extraordinary, and at times thankless job for this City” says Red
Bus Chief Executive Paul McNoe. “We thought it would be nice to do something for them”.
Most of the personnel managing the cordons (over two-thirds) are from out of town and Officer in
Command for the Reserve Task Group NZDF, Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Wayne Manu says it’s
a great opportunity for the Group to see what goes on inside the cordon and gain a perspective of
what it was like in Christchurch during the earthquakes.
“The Red Bus CBD Red Zone Tours and Quake City have kindly given us the chance to see what really
goes on inside the cordon they’ve been managing” says WO1 Wayne Manu. “It was really
rewarding”
The day out was attended by 23 Reserve Task Group NZDF and their family and friends.
