Literacy This term, we will be writing for different purposes, including writing invitations, menus and instructions. We will be writing about real events, linked to our History topic. We will be using descriptive vocabulary when writing poems about castles and about Autumn. In reading, we will be listening to, discussing and expressing views about castle and dragon stories. We will be using expression when reciting poems. We will be learn how to use non-fiction books to find information about castles and learn how to follow a set of instructions. In phonics and spelling, we will be revising and learning new letter sounds, following the Year 2 spelling curriculum. Children will be set homework based on the new spelling patterns taught on a weekly basis. In handwriting we will be practising using the correct letter formation. Numeracy Place value - recognise the value of each digit in a number eg tens and units. Practising number bonds numbers up to 20 Eg 1+5=6 4 + 6 = 10 14 + 6 = 20 2+4=6 7 + 3 = 10 17+ 3 = 20 Addition and subtraction using 2 digit numbers and ones, a two-digit number and tens, three one-digit numbers. PE Dance: Medieval dances Games/Gymnastics – REAL PE – Developing floor movements (Birthday Bikes) and developing one leg balancing (Popping Pirates). History: Castles In History, we will be looking at how and why early wooden castles changed over time to stone castles. We will learn the different parts of a castle and research how castles were defended and attacked. We will find out who lived in Rockingham Castle and what life would have been like. We will take part in a Medieval Feast, planning and preparing the food and entertainment fit for a banquet. Science: Use of Everyday Materials In Science, we will be identifying and comparing a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic and glass. We will look at the properties of materials that make them suitable or unsuitable for particular purposes and think about unusual and creative uses for everyday materials. We will investigate pushes and pulls as simple forces by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching a range of objects and finding out how they can be changed. R.E.
