Year 7 follow the NC for English KS3. English is taught for 3 hours with 30
minutes of homework per week. All homework will be sent and

Autumn 1&2 – Students are taught English skills through the reading and
analysis of a novel.
Spring 1 – Creative writing – A whole New World – students look at
poetry and prose.
Spring 2 – Performing poetry – Students study, learn, compose and
perform a range of poetic styles.
Summer 1 – Non- fiction aspirations – students read and analyse a range
of non-fiction texts focusing on raising their aspirations.
Summer 2 – Shakespeare – Students will study a whole play or extracts
of Shakespeare plays and their heritage.

Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice and Men’
Spring 1 – Shakespeare – Students will build on their introduction to
Shakespeare and study a whole play, ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, with a
focus on language.
Spring 2 – Moving on from Shakespeare students will study a modern
day drama text.
Summer 1 – Poetry – Students will develop their analytical skills through
the study of a range of poems based around a theme.
Summer 2 – Non- fiction – student will look at and produce non fiction
texts based around the theme ‘Our Area and British Values’

the study of a range of poems based around the theme of conflict.
Summer 2 – Creative writing – students will study the basics of creative
writing as a preparation for GCSE studies in year 10
All students will follow the AQA specification for GCSE English and
English Literature.

Year 11 students are following either AQA English Language and
Literature GCSE courses or iGCSE Cambridge English Language and iGCSE
AQA Literature Courses.

Autumn 1&2 – Non Fiction paper 2 preparation.
Students will also be working on re-sitting Controlled assessments
Spring 1&2 – Literature exam preparation to include speaking and
listening element
Students will be assessed every term for reading or writing and within a
term they will also complete 3 other extended tasks which will form their
