A habitat is a place where an animal finds food, water, and shelter. A forest has moist soil. Ferns and flowers grow on the forest floor. A cactus is a desert plant that holds water in its thick stem. Cacti are designed to store water from one rainfall to the next. Desert plants do not need much water. A bear needs a big part of a forest for its habitat. Animals must find air, water, and shelter in a habitat in order to live. A log could be a good shelter for small animals. Doves and hares rest in shady places to stay cool in the desert.
