December Elementary Principal Report We had about 100 parents signed up for Parent Day on November 20, but we had an early-out because of a snowstorm. No make-up day is planned. All Iowa Assessments were completed by 100% of our students. The assessments were shipped out to be scored December 1. The Iowa Assessment student reward movie “Peanuts” went over extremely well. Staff, bus drivers and parent volunteers made numerous comments about how well behaved our students were the entire day. A big thank you goes out to PTO volunteers Jamie Tjossem, Tisha Halverson, Lynn Steffens and Taylor Paulsen for helping out at the theater. Kris Wilbur did a great job organizing this event. November 25, Randy Hofmeyer and Mike Grove applied a new product on our Elementary gym floor. It looks terrific and the floor is very tacky / non-slippery. Mr. White and Mr. Fernstrum conducted the CIP data gathering on AIW implementation in our elementary school on December 3. They are sharing the data results with our staff on Wednesday. December 7, our TK – 4th grade Christmas Concerts were well attended. Over 100 people attended each afternoon matinee and we were 100% capacity with the evening concerts. Mrs. Meyer did a great job. December 8 and 9, we had eight teachers grades TK – 3 attend Shari Zimmer’s reading training at the Sioux City NWAEA. I participated with this training on December 8. The training was excellent and this will greatly influence our Early Literacy Program and reading interventions to assist our struggling readers. The team of teachers presented to our staff December 16 on what they learned during their two day conference. December 14, we had great attendance at our 5th and 6th grade Christmas Vocal and Band Concerts. Again, Mrs. Meyer did an excellent job. We have conducted some” Jean Day” fundraisers with our elementary staff. We raised over $400 to assist some of our area families in need of some assistance during the holiday season. Parent and community support donating winter clothing (coats, gloves, snow boots and snow pants) has been exceptional. Office referrals were up three (54 total) compared to last year. November was busy with PT Conferences, Iowa Assessments, Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving. The elementary student council concession stand has made over $700 during this Jr. High boys basketball season. Mr. Gloden has done a great job organizing these 5th and 6th grade students.
