Warsaw, 5 September 2013 20132013 – summary of the 21st edition: Warsaw, 30 August – 1 September 2013 The 21st edition of the International “GREEN IS LIFE” Exhibition, organised on 30.08. – 01.09. by the Polish Nurserymen Association and Agencja Promocji Zieleni under the slogan “Gardens with Character”, has ended. The event was attended by 250 exhibitors from 11 countries: Poland, Belgium, Denmark, France, Holland, Latvia, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy and New Zealand. The Exhibition was visited by 16,500 persons, including 5,400 professionals from all over Poland and 30 other countries. Traditionally, the largest group of visitors at “Green is Life” are customers from Eastern Europe. This year was no different in this respect. They came from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, as well as from the Baltic States, in particular from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The Fair was also visited by groups from Holland and Germany, and by guests from Scandinavia and Southern Europe – from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania to the Balkans and Italy. “Green is Life” is addressed to professionals, but also plays a popularising role contributing to the development of consumer needs and awareness. For the professionals, i.e. wholesalers and retailers, producers – nurserymen and gardeners, landscape architects, contracting firms, suppliers of products and services and public greenery investors, the event is a communication platform and a place where they can talk to their partners and see the offer directly, instead of through a computer screen, using the advantages of a face-to-face meeting. An opportunity to establish new contacts and obtain information regarding the terms and conditions of co-operation, and to gauge the condition of the sector and detect the directions of development is also important. Most of those who came to the Fair in their professional capacity did so on Friday and Saturday. Nearly 60% of them were decision-makers – owners and managers taking key decisions in their firms. “GREEN IN LIFE” is known for its clear thematic profile – the largest group of products on show are plants. They were presented by 52% of the exhibitors, dominated by producers from Poland, who included both large, well-known companies and small, or newly-established producers still awaiting wider recognition. Foreign exhibitors came mostly from Holland, Germany, France and Belgium. A total of 53 firms from other countries, mostly nurseries, participated in the Fair (over 25% of the total). The timing of the Fair is adjusted to the time during the season when plants presentation offers the best results – they are attractive and available in a wide assortment. This is also a moment preceding the sales season – both the autumn one, which the entire sector wants to develop, and the one coming next year, along with the spring. Customers can familiarise themselves with the offer, quality and purchase conditions in one place and at the same time. Many exhibitors prepare their displays very carefully, in order to stand out and draw the attention of customers. This year again many stands astounded visitors with their panache and ingenuity. Guests greatly appreciated the quality and diversity of the assortment offered by the nurseries. A growing position of decorative grasses and perennials was clearly visible – an increasing number of firms offer these products. Trees were also presented, mostly for use by towns and cities, along with an extensive offer of shrubs and material for further production. Exhibitors also offered seeds, bulbs, cut Christmas trees and seasonal and interior flowers. Numerous novel varieties elicited considerable interest among professionals and amateurs alike. Firms offering fertilisers, beddings, plant protection products, tunnels and hothouse systems, machines and tools used in gardens and green areas, irrigation systems, seeds, flower pots, plant production accessories, packing, transport, display facilitation technologies, as well as products assisting in promoting and selling horticultural goods were represented in the horticultural engineering and technology sector. Decorations and garden fittings and fixtures presented at this year’s Exhibition included flower pots, decorative coverings, supports for plants, garden furniture, stones and knick-knacks. Exhibitors also showed surfaces made of natural and processed materials for private and public gardens. There were also numerous accessories and systems for ponds and water features, green roofs and walls, fences and facades, fixtures and fittings for the relaxation and BBQ areas, as well as lawns – from rolls and grass seeds. The “GREEN IS LIFE” Exhibition also offers an extensive accompanying programme. Professionals appreciated the topicality of the issues discussed and the substantive level of the meetings. The seminars and conferences held during the Fair were addressed to garden centres (over 120 owners and managers), specialists and managers of public greenery (100 participants from dozens of towns) and landscape architects and contractors. On the Landscape Architect’s Day (Saturday, 31 August), Noel Kingsbury – the British landscape architect, was the special guest. His presentation, as well as other interesting addresses discussing workshop issues attracted over 200 participants. The amateurs’ programme – workshops, expert advice, lectures and horticultural or culinary presentations proved hugely popular among the public, demonstrating the desire to acquire knowledge of the horticultural art and practical information. Novelties aroused considerable interest among the visitors – particularly those entered in the Competitions accompanying the Exhibition – NOVELTY PLANTS and THE GREEN LAUREL.
