OBJECTIVE This procedure outlines the operation and maintenance of the Cold Room used for doing work in 4oC in Department of Physiology, NUS. 2. SCOPE This SOP is applicable to all Post Doc Researchers, Lab Technologists and Graduate Students. 3. 4. RESPONSIBILITY 3.1 It is the responsibility of the PI in conjunction with the laboratory supervisor to ensure that the Cold Room condition is regularly maintained, in certified good working order and available for research personnel as requested. 3.2 It is the responsibility of the PI in conjunction with the laboratory in charge to ensure that all research and technical staff using this facility are adequately trained and experienced. PROCEDURES 4.1 4.2 4.3 4.4 Keep all your samples within the shelf allocated to you. Label all sample boxes, as all unlabelled boxes will be discarded during clean up. Do not stay in the cold room longer than necessary unless you are wearing a jacket to prevent developing of hypothermia. Store all heavier items/stock in the lower shelf. Beware that condensation occurs while removing equipment from the cold room to outside environment could cause electrical short circuit. Clean and dry all spills on floor immediately to avoid being slipped. Discard all moist cardboard boxes immediately as moisture built up in the cold room can cause growth of moulds/fungus. Report all problems (temperature, spaces constraint, mechanical) to the person in charge immediately. The person in charge for the cold room is indicated on the door of the cold room. In case of power trip, please call 65161616 for OED support. Clean the cold room interior and shelf with 70% alcohol. REFERENCES 7.1 Refer to manufacturer’s instruction manual.
