Physical Education – Dance
To perform dances using a range of movement patterns.
To improvise freely on my own and with a partner.
To translate ideas from a variety of stimuli into movement.
To compare, develop and adapt movement to create longer dances.
To use dance vocabulary to compare and improve my work.
Art – Artist study (Paul Nash)
Pupils will be researching this artist, looking at his life, the war and
and how events shaped his artwork. They will be examining
different pieces in addition to creating their own work inspired by
Paul Nash.
To make patterns with line and shape.
To recognise and draw right angles and parallel lines.
To see relationships between line and shape when drawing.
To identify negative shapes.
To critique a piece of artwork using artistic vocabulary.
Local History Study – WW1
As part of the centenary year since the start of WW1, we will be
covering a range of subjects to do with the war. This will be linked
to soldiers from the Salford area. We will be visiting the IWM and
looking at their ‘From Street to Trenches exhibition.’
Pupils will develop a secure chronological knowledge of events and
understand their importance in History. We will be comparing the
role of men and women during the war and look at how they
shaped the lives of men and women today. We will be investigating
the role of animals in WW1 and be reading War Horse as our class
book. We will be researching and reading about local soldiers.
Religious Education – Hinduism
Pupils will know some key Hindu beliefs. Children will begin to
identify and describe similarities and differences between religions.
Pupils will be looking and important Hindu symbols and be
examining their meaning and importance. As part of this unit we will
be learning about Diwali – the celebrations involved and how it is
celebrated.
Science – Electricity
Pupils will firstly be learning about safety when using electricity.
Within this unit the children will be helping Spiderman beat
‘Electro’. They will become independent investigators as they
create their ‘manuals’ through a series of investigations. Children
will be examining circuits, insulators, conductors, switches, buzzers
and their scientific symbols. Pupils will understand that electricity
produces many forms of energy and its importance in our lives.
Computing - Blogging
Pupils will collaborate with peers on a project to produce a blog as
a soldier in WW1. We will be using http://onesworldwar.com/ as
an example and will incorporate a range of skills including
podcasts,i movie and text in order to create our blog.
MFL – French
Listen and engage in conversations, expressing opinions.
Develop appropriate pronunciation and present ideas and
information orally.
Show an understanding in reading and adapt known language to
create new ideas.
Describe people, places and things.
Music
In addition to learning a Brass Instrument, pupils will be using
Garageband on the Ipads in order to create their own WW1
composition. Pupils will use and understand some musical
notation. They will use crescendo (getting louder) and diminuendo
(getting quieter) for effect.
Social, Moral, Spiritual, Cultural
Looking at shared times of celebration within communities.
Children will become aware of different cultures and communities
within the local area.
