I am writing today to encourage you companies to work with all of your manufacturers
and suppliers to eliminate toxic flame retardants and other toxic materials in the
products you sell.
Toxic flame retardants do not belong in everyday consumer products. They don’t work
to reduce the dangers of fire, but they have been linked to negative human health
impacts – putting people at risk. They can also make recycling difficult and dangerous:
toxic flame retardants are finding their way into recycled plastic products and vinyl
flooring sold here in the U.S.! So the faster we get toxic chemicals out of consumer
products, the sooner we can protect public health and have clean, safe recycling.
Please adopt a comprehensive chemicals policy to assure that all your products are free
of toxic chemicals and materials of concern, and use your market power to help keep all
the products you sell safe. Sincerely,
