Reasoning and Proof Course: Geometry Learning Goal: Students will be able to use inductive and deductive reasoning, understand geometric relationship in diagrams, and write proofs of geometric relationships. Standards: MAFS.A.REI.1, MAFS.G.CO.9, MAFS.MP.3 4 3 Students can apply reasoning to real-world situations and prove geometric theorems. Students can prove geometric theorems about lines and angles. Students construct viable arguments. 2 1 Grade High School Student Evidences I can represent real world situations using geometric figures I can use symbolic notation and truth tables I can prove geometric theorems. I can use postulates involving point, lines, and planes. I can use algebraic properties in logical arguments. I can write proofs using geometric theorems such as Congruence of Segments, and Congruence of Angles. I can use properties of special pairs of angles such as Right Angle Congruence, Congruent Supplements, Congruent Complements, Linear Pair Postulate, and Vertical Angles Congruence. Students can recall specific vocabulary terms: Conjecture, inductive reasoning, counterexample, conditional statement, if-then form, negation, equivalent statements, perpendicular lines, biconditional statement, deductive reasoning, proof, two-column proof, theorem I can recall specified vocabulary terms. I can describe patterns and use inductive reasoning I can write definitions as conditional statements I can use deductive reasoning to form a logical argument using the Law of Detachment, the Law of Syllogism. Students can name figures, use notation, solve equations, and draw diagrams. I can use angle pair relationships I can identify segments, rays, and lines I can solve multi step equations
