Introduce lesson with photos and video featuring the art of Nam June Paik 2. Have students share their feelings/reactions to Nam June Paik’s artwork 3. Give students paper to draw ideas as they watch the rest of the videos on Robots… 4. Remind students to look at shapes (2-d) and forms (3-d)of robots....notice the details…movement etc…. • Continues developmental awareness through a wide range of multi-sensory experiences. • Becomes acquainted with works by artists. • Conveys ideas, thoughts, feelings and memories with a variety of media and modalities (drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking and architecture). Elements/Principles of Art: o Shape and Form: Demonstrates an ability to see and manipulate shapes to express an idea. Organizes shapes in space to create balance. Uses geometric shapes to create a design. Uses familiar shapes to create new things. Art teacher: 1. Review info from Intro- esp. Nam June Paik artwork reactions… 2. Discuss Robots and how they are made up of many parts…Assembled…in a factory…. 3. Introduce the concept of Relief sculpture-Just seen from the front, but pops out from the background…. 4. Introduce the concept of Assemblage (putting many pieces together to make one work of art) 5. Introduce the concept of Mixed Mediacardboard, chenille stems, washers, diodes, nuts, bolts, stickers….. 6. Demonstrate procedure of “building the Robot Relief Sculpture” 7. Students go to different stations to get materials…Name/number on back of mat board 8. Work Finishing Project: Rubric: Group Critique at Stations Technique/craftsmanship: Neatness 1. Teacher selects 5 student works. ***By the end of the year/term, all students will have had a work selected for critique. 2. Place on white roll paper, spread around the room. 3. Students watch and listen to teacher model the behaviors sought- in terms of the discussion questions/rubric guidelines. 4. Students are divided into 5 groups and go to each area where the works are displayed. 5. Students write responses to prompts from teacher on the white paper with a pencil.(5 minutes?) 6. Students return to seats/rug for whole group sharing.
