Role Overview:
Data61 is the largest data innovation group in Australia. Bringing together CSIRO’s Productivity team and
National ICT Australia (NICTA), we are unrivalled in our intellectual capital and our network with the global
technology marketplace. The combined group will bring together approximately 600 research staff
working in digital technologies to create benefit for Australia. Data61 will continue to develop Australia’s
future leaders with its strong 300+ PhD student program in collaboration with our best universities across
Australia.
This role requires broad experience in business development and commercialisation of intellectual
property coupled with extensive experience in building partnerships between industry, government and
research organisations. You will become the interface between science and business to generate
revenues and community benefits based on Australian innovations. As part of the BD & C team you will
play a key role in deepening engagements with key clients, leveraging IP assets and contributing to the
entrepreneurial cultures within Data61.
Duties and Key Result Areas:

























Manage multiple projects and activities at any given time, often requiring frequent context
switching.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports on ARENA activities.
Liaise with Communications on internal and external announcements of highlights, monitor
ARENA web presence and other external communication and ensure it is kept up to date.
Work with ARENA leader to ensure group members are abreast of what is happening.
Lead, coach and supervise staff to maintain high levels of motivation and productivity.
Organise workshops, summer schools etc. as required.
Manage recruitment and internships, by organising interviews, reference checks, employment
contracts, visa training plans etc.
Monitor student reviews to ensure they happen on time and according to policies.
Ensure the use of the most suitable tools to maximise administrative efficiency.
Ensure activities and project deliverables comply with all relevant legislation, government
requirements, standards and guidelines, the company and customer’s policies and procedures.
Identify, manage and mitigate project risks.
Plan projects and develop schedules, milestones and task dependencies.
Track and report project progress using appropriate tools.
Prepare reports as required (monthly, quarterly, annually) describing technical progress, resource
usage, risks, changes.
Work closely with the assigned internal and external stakeholders to deliver all projects efficiently
and effectively.
Prepare project plans, specifying all project deliverables, constraints, stakeholders, risk register
and risk management plan, significant issues and required resources.
Deliver assigned projects to the agreed and approved project brief and project plan, with respect
to time, cost and outcomes.
Ensure all project activities are adequately documented and records maintained to ensure
transparency of risk management and decision making.
Take responsibility for coordinating the preparation, management and dissemination of all labrelated material, including reports, proposals and briefing papers for the board and government
stakeholders.
Ensuring a calendar of regular meetings with Government staff is maintained.
Manage information required to support and track government and external milestones.
Maintain close coordination on all external reporting and other obligations with Data 61
Operations groups.
Provide leadership by negotiating issues and identifying solutions with key internal and external
stakeholders.
Strive for “Zero Harm” (physical and psychological) - promote a strong safety culture through
active management of HSE performance.
Other duties as directed.

Pre-Requisites:

Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Project Management or related management
disciplines.
Essential Criteria:









Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a high degree of initiative.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills with proficiency in the use of
computer software packages.
Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to consult and negotiate with a wide range of
stakeholders and achieve consensus.
Strong risk management and problem resolution skills, lateral thinking and creative skills and
capacity to apply these to the project implementation.
Excellent organisational skills and capacity to successfully manage competing priorities and to
deliver project deliverables within agreed time-frames.
Goal-oriented self-starter with exceptional attention to detail. Thrive under pressure, enjoy a high
workload and savour getting results.
