1-Support is focussed on the person
Good
Support staff have a good understanding of Autism and how it affects the person’s support
needs. Autism Hampshire has introduced a practice model – Autism Practice Validation
(APV) and SCERT’s (which is a research based communication tool) and these both
provide staff with the tools to provide very specific personalised support. Staff have a good
understanding and relationship with the people we support, their families and local
community teams.
Rotas reflect when the person would like their 1-1 support.
Staff have a good understanding of positive risk taking and actively support people to have
new opportunities.
Autism Hampshire has a robust and transparent culture and approach to safeguarding.
Outreach services, which are able to support people and their families who may not be
able to access council funded service. Sign posting to other services. Autism Alert Card.
SCIP training courses are service specific and designed around the person. Training is
also provided to families around positive approaches to behaviour management, by AH
training team.
Young people’s service Ofsted report graded them as providing ‘Outstanding’ outcomes for
young people.
CQC Compliance in all services.
New Life skills college.
AH has its own Specialist Support Team (SST) to provide support and guidance.
What we need to do:
Clear guidance for staff for communication with families, e.g. what information should be
shared and when and how.
Design policy & procedure for involving people we support/ families in the design and
delivery of training.
Develop a new service user forum for the people who use our services.
Develop a relationship with existing external agencies who already operate forums so that
we can offer opportunities for peer support and development.

2-The person is supported to have an ordinary and meaningful life
Good
APV- Practice model ensures that staff are equipped to support people to have an independent
and meaningful life. SCERTS supports staff to work with people empowering them to be able to
communicate their needs, wishes and choices.
Autism Alliance, sharing good practice, reflection and reviewing after the assessment process.
Practice forum, reflecting on support and involvement of the people we support.
Staff practice forums, staff having the opportunity to discuss current matters, and develop support
plans together as a team, with as much involvement with the person as possible.
Supporting people with Autism into employment paid and unpaid, as well as main stream colleges.
Supporting people with Autism at universities to successfully complete their degrees.
Appraisals, reflections and action regarding the way that people would like their support.
Reviews are set out in as many ways as possible to support the person to attend.
Stakeholder survey, acting on feedback.
Newsletter, involving the people we support.
Training by AH staff to support families who provide support within their own home.
What we need to do:
Develop a new Service user forum.
Experts by experience involved in Training our staff, and reviewing quality.
Meaningful work placement and partnership working with other agencies.
Shared working practices across the organisation.
Flexible staff rotation, reviewing access to Day services.
Accessing social media/ social networking for people with support needs.
Look for opportunities to increase peoples’ options to social networks, befriending schemes.

3.Care and support focuses on people being happy and having a good
quality of life
Good
Supporting choice / decision making for the future and the here and now.
Move on options to people being more independent living in their own home.
Good understanding of positive risk taking, to support people to develop new skills.
Support that enables people to develop strategies to help them increase their independence.
Services are working with services users to encourage/ support meaningful friendships.
Positive feedback back from Social Service annual reviews, CQC, Ofsted, regarding positive
outcomes for the people we support, stated within the content of reports.
Offering a phone and advice centre to people and their families, covering a number of counties.
What we need to do:
Develop further the practice forum.
Supporting engagement in the local community.
Match skills & interests between staff and people we support, develop staff profiles.
Expand easy read/other communication tools.
Befriending scheme, networking groups for the people we support.
Look at ways to involve the people support and their families in the interview process, where
appropriate.
Increasing partnerships working with local supported employment and colleges.
Increasing the number of housing providers AH currently works with.

5. Managers and board members lead and run the organisation well

Board members undertake quality visits in services, and attend meetings e.g. Health and Safety
and E&D forums.
The organisation has strong governance with ongoing monitoring.
A skills audit of board members is done and a search committee exists to recruit to deficit skills.
What we need to do:
Recruit a person with autism to the board of trustees.
Deliver the development plan.
Website, intranet, and newsletter review with the people we support.
Annual review needs to be reviewed put into a new format.
Rethink about how much information as an organisation that is shared.
Increased number of communications aids.
People who use services are trained to support quality monitoring.
