Job Title: Major Donor Fundraising Officer Part-time, three days a week Team: Fundraising Reports To: Director of Fundraising Key Relationships: CEO Executive Assistant to the CEO Background Cardinal Basil Hume founded the Centre in 1986; we offer a diverse range of services for homeless young people, families in need and the local community on one site. The Centre enables people to gain the skills and support they need to overcome poverty and homelessness. We have a person-focussed approach which encourages us to recognise that each human being is different with complex needs and so our response needs to be multilayered. Therefore we offer six principal service packages: residential services for homeless young people; family services for children and families; housing, welfare rights and money management advice; employment support; learning and skills (English, IT and Adult Learning); and immigration advice and advocacy. The Centre takes the Benedictine ethos of our founder seriously, ensuring that we offer a non-judgemental welcome and a stable and safe environment for people in need to seek help and support. With an annual income in the region of £2.7 million, there are currently 62 staff members. In addition, the Centre benefits from the generous and diverse contribution of volunteers; there are currently some 130 active volunteers. You will be joining a fundraising team of nine, including one volunteer. Although the CEO and the Director of Fundraising are the primary holders of relationships with major donors, this post will pay a key part in developing and expanding the Centre’s major donor programme. 1 Key Purpose To expand the Centre’s major donor programme, working closely with the Director of Fundraising and the CEO. To take a lead role in all aspects of the major gift cycle from identifying prospects to shaping the task, to ensuring follow up. To ensure the relationship of all the major donors with the Centre is developed in a positive and engaged way, personalising all our communications. To take the lead on organising major donor events. Key Tasks To ensure that major donors are receiving a first class service from the Centre. To research existing and potential major donors. To develop appropriate cultivation strategies for potential major donors, moving them in a timely fashion towards donating. To monitor all existing major donor relationships for prospect contacts. To work with existing major donors to develop peer to peer fundraising. To chase progress on agreed actions, including with the CEO. To take the lead on organising major donor events. To ensure that all interactions with major donors are recorded and updated promptly. To work with the individual donor officer to maximise major gifts from existing individual donors. To work with other members of the team to ensure that information about relevant individuals is used appropriately. To organise meetings and visits to further engage supporters with our work. To support other fundraising colleagues to deliver best practice across the team. To keep up to date with changes and good practice in this area of fundraising. To undertake other duties as required including working some anti-social hours for which TOIL is available. To complete the above in line with the Centre’s agreed values and aims and in accordance with agreed policies and procedures. Person Specification: Essential Experience of working with major donors 2 Ability to research, make links and identify opportunities Ability to keep excellent records Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills An energetic professional with a proven track record of build effective relationships at different levels whilst being able to work as part of a team Someone with the confidence to chase the CEO to take an action. Confident self-starter with excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, use of initiative and ability to make decisions. Flexible, positive and proactive attitude A desire to develop a successful career in fundraising. Good computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and experience of databases (the Centre uses ThankQ) Understanding of the motivation behind philanthropy particularly that of faithbased donors. Willingness to work flexibly including some early evening and occasional weekend work Desirable Understanding of the impact of homelessness and social exclusion Experience of ThankQ TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Starting salary: Holidays: Notice Period: Pension: Probation Period: £30,750 (prorated to £18,450 for part-time working hours) 24 days, rising to 26 after one year’s service, and 28 days after two years’ service (pro-rata) One month The Centre provides an auto-enrolment pension scheme and will match employee contributions up to a maximum of 6%.
