Learning Resource Centre Team Leader JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION Learning Resource Centre Team Leader Coventry University London Campus Reference: CULC111 Salary £33,800 plus bonus potential and benefits 1. PURPOSE As part of the Learning Resources and Learning Support Service, this post manages the day to day operation and staffing of the Learning Resource Centre and delivering user services at Coventry University London Campus. 2. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Manage the day to day operation of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), and lead the Service Desk team in the LRC. Responsible for the delivery of professional and high quality services, including lending and enquiry services, whilst ensuring sufficient staffing levels on the Service Desk to support our extended opening hours. Responsible for maintaining up to date and relevant policies and procedures. 2. Manages and directs the work of the Information Assistants and Graduate Trainee(s), including recruitment, induction, allocation and supervision of work, and ensures staff are equipped with the skills they need to fulfil their duties. Carries out performance reviews and supports staff development in accordance with CULC policy. 3. Operational management of our termly Student Textbook scheme, including ensuring up to date book lists from academic staff, compiling and placing orders, managing distribution on campus and dealing with returns on completion in liaison with our suppliers throughout. Includes the compiling of management data to assist with budgeting, reporting and planning for future textbook distributions. 4. Responsible for supporting our partnership relationships, acting as the main point of liaison for our international partners on Learning Resources issues. Working closely with the International team to deliver a timely, professional and effective service and our Partnership Librarian at Coventry to ensure available resources are up to date and share best practice. 5. Is the expert user on the Library Management System (transitioning to a new system this year), responsible for delivering training and cascading training as required to the Service Desk team and others as appropriate. 6. Develops and implements Collection Management Policy, managing subscriptions and acquisition of lending stock, placing orders using the library management system or directly with suppliers, dealing with order enquiries and liaising with academic staff over orders. Learning Resource Centre Team Leader 7. Management of reading list processes and software and coordinating the provision of digital course readings and case studies. Responsible for ensuring that the online reading list service is comprehensive and consistent. 8. Collects, maintains and shares statistics, financial information and management data as required to support decision making and planning. 9. Promoting and marketing Learning Resources and Learning Support services, using Moodle, webpages, social media etc as required. Some use of specialist software is required. 10. To deliver induction for new staff and students, as required during the academic year. 11. Keeping up to date with professional developments and feed these into the team as appropriate. 12. Working effectively as a team member, supporting the other members of the team in their duties as required. Liaison with key contacts and stakeholders at Lanchester Library in Coventry and building effective working relationships. Contributing to committees, working groups and other stakeholders. 13. Ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act (1998) and the Freedom of Information Act (2001) and all other rules and regulations that govern the work completed for CULC. 14. Undertaking such duties as may be specified from time to time by Learning Resources and Learning Support Manager and the Director of CULC Reports: This position reports to the Learning Resources and Learning Support Manager and directly manages Information Assistants, Graduate Trainees and evening/weekend staff. 3. Qualifications and Experience Essential: Qualified librarian with a degree or postgraduate qualification in librarianship, information studies or information management (or equivalent extensive experience). Experience in an academic or corporate library / information service. Highly developed customer service skills. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills. Experience of using electronic resources. Computer literacy; including a high level of competence in MS Office. Ability to adapt successfully to changing circumstances. Advantageous: Experience of managing people Experience of working with international students. Experience of teaching / training Library users. Experience of acquisitions procedures using ALEPH, Alma or a similar Library Management System. Experience of working with the TALIS ASPIRE or similar reading list system. The usual working hours will be shifts covering 8am to 6pm, although some later evening cover may be required. Additional evening and weekend working may be required at busy times of year, such as during exam revision and before coursework deadlines, or to ensure the success of all CULC activities.
