Provide centralised support and management of chemicals and general consumables focusing on the transition of laboratory areas into shared spaces to ensure optimal function and flexibility.

Maintenance of shared areas

Develop processes for the management and disposal of chemicals, including a regular chemical audit.

Ensure compliance of chemicals with OHS/IBC requirements to provide a safe working environment.

 Provide high-level expertise Institute wide.

 Provide advice to researchers on storage, labeling and disposal of chemicals.

 Work with finance to ensure effective chemical procurement.

 Maintain relevant paperwork, records and databases, such as

ChemAlert as required, keep stocks of relevant supplies, order chemicals.

Assist in the planning and movement of chemicals to the New building.

Develop processes for the centralised procurement of chemicals and common consumables in the laboratory areas.

Order common supplies and maintain relevant paperwork, records and databases of stocks.

Work with finance to ensure effective procurement of common consumables.

Assist laboratory researchers in using the Institute procurement system.

Regular cleaning and monitoring of shared areas and equipment.

Re-stock shared consumables.

Autoclave of GMO/biohazard waste in shared areas.

Assist in the planning and management of shared facilities in the New building.

Creation and implementation of an effective Chemical

Management System.

Reduce stocks and duplication of hazardous chemicals on site.

 Provide efficiencies in the procurement and management of chemicals.

 Relevant & up to date SOP’s

 Delivery of In-house practical training in chemical management.

A safe transition of chemicals to the New building.

Creation and implementation of an effective centralised system for laboratories.

Improved training of laboratory researchers to use the Institute procurement system.

An accurate building chemical manifest

 User-friendly and accurate chemical related documentation.

 Feedback on quality, consistency and availability of training

Feedback from researchers

Reduction of consumables held on site.

Improved savings to budget.

Feedback from researchers and finance.

Creation and maintenance of

 scheduled house-keeping of shared areas

Shared areas are clean & tidy and functional for end users at all times.

Relevant & up to date SOP’s

Shared consumables are readily available

Facility is maintained at a

 high standard of cleanliness & sterility.

Feedback from researchers.

Qualifications:

what are the minimum educational, technical or professional qualifications required to competently perform role

Qualification in a Health/Laboratory Science discipline

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

Good communication skills

 Completion of a laboratory safety course

Experience in using ChemAlert or other chemical management system

 Pragmatic in approach

Excellent attention to detail and record keeping skills

 Excellent planning, and organizational skills

Good level of computer literacy (MS Office suite etc.)
