Position Summary
The network engineer is responsible for the set up and maintenance of the enterprise’s current and future network
structure and associated components..
Essential Functions and Work Duties
The following essential functions of this position are performed personally, in cooperation with your supervisor, and/or in
coordination with other staff. Additional work functions and duties may be assigned.

Provides Level II technical support to users to resolve problems in conjunction with the IT Help Desk.
Creates network structures to effectively meet business needs.
Maintains the network switches, routers, data communications, and fiber networks.
Performs the engineering, configuration, installation, maintenance, and upgrade of networks, including
servers, tape back ups, routers, switches, firewalls, remote access systems, and network management
systems.
Follows the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to install data networks.
Provides technical support to various departments and users with regards to LAN/WAN/SAN
(local/wide/storage area networks).
Maintains highest levels of data security and protection from disaster.
Works under close to moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment.
Consults with senior peers on non-complex projects to learn through experience.
Other duties as assigned.
NETWORK ENGINEER II

Serves as a liaison with vendors and other third-party providers.
Generates the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to for data networks.

May consult with senior peers on certain projects.

1. Optimizes and fine tunes the network to run more efficiently.
2. Determines policy and procedures for the data networks.
3. Creates the data network templates.

Education and Experience
Level I
 Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering; may have completed an advanced degree, certification, or
additional professional training
 Typically requires up to 3-5 years of experience
 Basic skills with moderate level of proficiency
Level II
 Require a Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering; may have completed an advanced degree,
certification, or additional professional training
 Typically require 5-9 years of experience
 Moderate skills with high level of proficiency
Level III
 Typically require a Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering; may have completed an advanced
degree, certification, or additional professional training
 Typically require 10-15 years of experience

 Certifications Required:
CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or CCNP (Cisco Certified Network
Professional) certification
 Experience planning, design, implementation and supporting Cisco routers, switches, Border Gateway Protocol
(BGP), Virtual Private Network (VPN), Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP), Quality of Service (QoS), Resource
Reservation Protocol (RSVP), Diffserv, IP traffic, server administration
 Involvement developing or deploying IP-based network solutions or products
 Working knowledge of end-to-end networking solutions, including network elements, network management, and
OSS
 Excellent understanding of IP protocols, routers and Ethernet switches, including specialized experience in router
protocols and router management (i.e., configuration of tables)
 IEEE 802.1p/q for Ethernet VLANs or MPLS based VPNs (RFC 2547)
