Lucifer’s Punishment and the Middle Age Mindset
God created Lucifer as a perfect angel. He was a celestial body. But due to Lucifer’s greediness
and his lying, he was punished by being kicked out of heaven and then he made hell by his impact with
earth. Notice that it was Lucifer’s decision to do those bad things and that is why he was punished by
being the keeper of hell. In the middle age mindset, people believed that they would either go to heaven
or to hell due to what they chose, in other words what their decisions were in life. That is why Lucifer’s
punishment makes sense because of what he did. If he hadn’t done that, then he would be in heaven.
Also, in Dante’s book, lust is the worst of the 7 deadly sins, which is what Lucifer did because he had lust
for the worship of the humans which only belonged to god, so he was punished dearly. But people still
believe as well that god made some people have the ability to resist the temptations and others not, so
its contradictory, but I guess the middle age mindset was not that developed.
