Intellectual Property Manager Insight Centre for Data Analytics Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full time fixed term position as an Intellectual Property Manager with the Insight Centre for Data Analytics. This position is funded by Science Foundation Ireland and is available from 1/4/2014 to contract end date of 30/6/2019, (subject to annual review). About us: The Insight Centre for Data Analytics is a joint initiative between researchers at UCD, NUI Galway, UCC, DCU, and other partner institutions. It brings together a critical mass of more than 200 researchers from Ireland's leading ICT Centres to develop a new generation of data analytics technologies in a number of key application areas. Insight’s Research Programmes and Application Domains will form the strategic focus areas around which we will identify opportunities for collaboration with industry partners and funding agencies. Insight’s Research Programmes are Machine Learning and Statistics, Media Analytics, Optimisation and Decision Analytics, Recommender Systems, The Semantic Web and Linked Data, and The Sensor Web. Insight’s Application Domains are Connected Health, The Discovery Economy, Digital Humanities and Journalism, Energy and Environment, Sport and Wellness and Media Processing. Job description: The IP Manager will have responsibility for ensuring, in conjunction with the relevant Universities Technology Transfer Offices, that the “Science Foundation Ireland Guidelines for Access to Intellectual Property”, and IP aspects of the Inter Institutional Agreement (IIA) are implemented across the Centre. The successful candidate will organise and manage an IP and Commercialisation Committee for the Centre which will ensure the identification, capture and protection of intellectual property arising from research activities within the Centre, and the maximum impact from the commercialisation of the Centre’s research results. S/he will also be responsible for the IP awareness training for all Centre personnel. This position may be located at either of the Centre’s locations at Dublin City University, National University of Ireland, Galway, University College Cork, or University College Dublin. Post requirements: The ideal candidate should have 3+ years experience in an academic and/or industrial setting ideally involving the identification, and management, of Intellectual Property. They should also possess a deep understanding of intellectual property rights law and the issues relating to commercialisation of Intellectual Property (IP), including issues relating to software and open source licences, particularly in the context of academic research. S/he will also have an ability to work effectively with staff and management across all levels, both internally and externally, and have excellent writing, presentation, and interpersonal/communication skills.
