We agree to provide the intern with leadership opportunities in order to satisfy the requirements of the internship.
These requirements conform to NCATE national accreditation and the Masters degree requirements of Columbia
University for a 450 hour supervised field placement in order to qualify for certification as a School Building
Leader (SBL) and receive six (6) graduate points of coursework at Teachers College.
We acknowledge that in order to satisfy completion of the 450-hour fieldwork requirement in conjunction with the
intern’s current teaching obligations, the internship may assume a variety of forms and the final format will be
determined in consultation with the Summer Principals Academy Director. Prior to the start of the 2016 academic
year, each student will have pre-advising explaining the purpose and possible alternatives for an internship.
During the fall term immediately following the initial summer of program participation (the 2016 SPA semester
runs from June 11 – July 16, 2016), the intern will, in consultation with program faculty, construct a memorandum
of agreement that describes the ELCC Standards-referenced work projects (“deliverables”) that will be completed
prior to completion of the internship due on September 15, 2016. For each work project, the intern will describe
how it will provide an opportunity to demonstrate competence with the ELCC Standards. In addition, the intern
will describe how each project reflects the content of the courses taken to date. This document will constitute the
Internship Memorandum of Agreement.
In addition to the above memorandum, students will be required to provide documentation of their internship
experience during the intervening year, with appropriate endorsements from their Internship supervisor in the
field and at Teachers College. During the internship phase, the student will be supervised by a Teachers College
internship coach who agrees to meet with the supervising principal and the intern.
These procedures and requirements are specified in detail in the Summer Principal Academy’s Internship
Website, which admitted students will receive access to in June. Failure to supply the required materials by
identified deadlines may negatively affect the student’s conformation to requirements of NCATE and Columbia
University.
Signature below affirms the obligation of the cooperating administrator to provide the intern with opportunities to
complete the requirements outlined above.
