Instructions for Convenors of Teaching Courses

The convenor is responsible for the selection of speakers, the selection of topics to be presented and the scientific standards of the teaching course.

Each teaching course will last three hours.

 Teaching courses should be of a very high standard and the lecturers internationally well known experts.

 Please invite only lecturers who are able to speak good English.

 Teaching courses should have a maximum of 4 lecturers including the convenor.

 In principle, the teaching course lecturers should come from European countries. In no case should there be more than one non-European speaker per course, or more than two from the same country.

Convenors should select the appropriate level for their suggested course(s) using the guidance below. All levels are aimed primarily at a post-graduate audience, and should have clear learning objectives which can inform clinical practice, specifically including therapy recommendations. For large fields (e.g. stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, epilepsy), 2 courses at different LEVELS * (e.g. 1 and 2) may be selected. Where possible, any EFNS/other international guidelines should be integrated. Liaison with EAYNT (European Association of

Yount Neurologists and Trainees) at all levels is encouraged.

*Level 1 (Introductory) Aimed primarily at neurologists in training, or those wishing to refresh/update their basic knowledge in the field. May also be suitable for undergraduates or general trainees with a particular interest.

*Level 2 (standard) Assumes familiarity with basic clinical knowledge and practice, aimed at specialist trainees or practitioners wishing to update and further develop their knowledge in the field

*Level 3 (advanced) Aimed at specialist trainees or practitioners with a particular interest in that field, covering the latest advances of particular interest to a specialist audience

 Teaching Course programmes and lectures must clearly differ from the main topics of the congress, including symposia, Satellite symposia, focused workshops or other congress events.

 Teaching courses at all levels should:

- be interactive, with ample opportunity for participants to ask questions, facilitated by the convenor as required.

- be in English with good quality slides

- be accompanied by a manuscript/summary from each speaker, submitted to the EFNS Head

Office by the given deadline (anticipated deadline: January 2014). These will be collated and distributed to TC participants at the Congress. Detailed instructions will be sent to all speakers in due course after TC acceptance and speakers' / programme confirmation.

- TCs include a 30 minute coffee break, which will be incorporated in the teaching course fees.

 All speakers should include on a title slide, and in their manuscript statements which:

disclose any potential conflicts of interest, commercial or otherwise

acknowledge all funding sources for any work presented, institutional and/or corporate affiliations in both slides/summaries.

 Evaluation:

All teaching courses will be routinely evaluated including data on quality, attendance, technical issues, problems that arise and suggestions for future topics.

Evaluation results will be used by teaching course convenors/the Congress Programme

Committee to inform decisions for future courses, including consideration of individual convenors, speakers and topics.

Benefits for the speakers of Teaching Courses are the following: We are pleased to offer free registration to the congress, a travel grant, and up to three nights hotel accommodation.

Lecturers who do not provide a manuscript/summary will not receive any reimbursement.
