VACANCY: SENIOR LECTURER
Responsibilities

Teaching-learning regarding Latin on NQF levels 6-10

Facilitation of the service course Medical Terminology

Responsibility for and development of the existing short courses in Botanical Latin and Greek-Roman Mythology

Responsibility for the Latin module in UniPrep (Open and distance learning)

Research outputs in the form of articles in accredited journals, supervision of master’s and doctoral students, and the
recruitment and supervision of postdoctoral fellows in Latin
The minimum requirements are the following:

A PhD or DLitt in Latin

Approximately five years’ experience in teaching Latin at undergraduate and postgraduate level

Approximately five years’ experience in teaching Latin terminology in other disciplines such as Medicine and Botany

A record of research outputs in national and international journals over the past five years

A record of papers presented at national and international conferences over the past five years

Active involvement with a professional society (CASA or similar) over the past five years

Knowledge of the use of all teaching media and methods for teaching Latin

Advanced knowledge of appropriate research methods and theories regarding Ancient Languages

Skills in teaching and assessment of Latin on NQF levels 6-10

Innovative and creative ability to popularise and develop the subject Latin

Computer literacy in MS Office (Word and Excel), email, web-page design and maintenance

Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the
NWU
Total remuneration package: R367 010 – R489 311 per annum (employer contribution in respect of fringe benefits
included)
